My RIDGID tube bender for 6mm tubes has a bending radius of 16 mm. The radius is measured to center of tube. When I make my own tube bender, I use a radius of 3x tube diameter and that works fine.

I have used ER collets for more than 20 years and have never had any problems with cutters moving in collets. I have also used the Clarkson system, and it works fine but the disadvantage is that you must use special endmills that have a threaded shank.

No this is wrong, if using a pinion with 20deg PA then the rack also must have a PA of 20deg.

Where do you get the 60deg from?

I made a LBSC injector when I built my first locomotive TICH in 1978. It was made following Curlys instructions in his book Shop Shed & Road. It is of the Sellers type, combining cone is in one-piece whit a slot in the middle 1/32” wide. It always picks up quickly and with such a small boiler it only needs to feed for about 15 seconds. The only drawback is that it doesn’t run dry, there is always some water coming out from the overflow, but as long as the main part goes into the boiler I can live with that.

I have a large boilerd TICH in 31/2” and mine has Walschaerts valve gear. I have never seen a TICH with Baker valve gear, but I don´t think there is any problem with the valve gear.

Have you checked that all axel boxes are at the same height when you test run your chassi? If not, this may be the reason why one of the back wheels is binding at one position.

I use white spirit to thin Humbrol paint, and it has not affected the gloss finish. For cleaning paintbrush, I use cellulose thinner.

I always reduce stock diameter by 1/10 of the pitch, and this is also what Dormer recommend, so reducing stock diam to 9.88mm is OK.

I am not familiar with Don`s “Words and Music” but LBSC wrote about this in one of his articles. I have fitted this plug to al of my three locomotives.

The function of the plug is to be able to put a very small drop of oil on the regulator if it gets stiff. Of course, you must be extremely careful so you don´t get the oil into the boiler.

The reason for using a long rivet is that the part that sticks out can absorb heat more easily. This will help to get the silversolder to penetrate al the way thru the wrapper. If you do it your way you also risk bending the rivet when you splay the end.

I have built three locomotive boilers (two 3.5” and one 7.25&rdquo and have always used this method whit great success. I recommend that you by a book by Alec Farmer title, Model Locomotive Boilermaking. I met him when I made a trip to UK 1988 and was invited to his workshop and got a signed copy from him. He was very skilled, and I think you should read his book.

Received my first issue of ME number 4642 here in Sweden since Covid started yesterday.

I still don’t know how to get access to the digital copies. A friend told me he had to call subscription office in UK to be able to get his access. He is very god at computers and tried to help me but failed. It will not be the end of the world if I don´t get an access, I am happy ME is back. I have had a subscription since 1974 and still enjoy every copy.

Lots of rain in the morning but clear sky and sun in the afternoon. So, I thought it was a good idea to bring out my little TICH and run her on my own private track. My youngest son joined me an we had lots of fun running around my small track. My locomotive is 42 years old but still performs very well. We kept her in steam for more then an hour without any problems. There are no clubs for 3.5” and 5” gauge here in Sweden and the hobby is almost unknown. The only club is one in 7.5” gauge where I run my BR Class2 locomotive, but there will be no public running this year so I`m happy to have my own track.

You must enter G54 as a work zero offset. The program must know the zero position of X, Y and Z.

You can´t have a Z coordinate in G3 if you use G17, so remove Z.
