Ah, gotcha - didn't think to look there.

Might be worth contacting Anglo-Swiss Tools - if they don't do this sort of thing themselves, they may have a suggestion:

**LINK**

They also have an archive of catalogues and manuals which I think includes those for both of your machines.BTW, you probably have a 102VM - to the best of my knowledge there never was a 105.:

**LINK**

You could also ask on the Schaublin Yahoo list:

**LINK**

...although depending on what you want done, maybe any experienced machine tool person (non Schaublin specific) could help. If the machines are not actually broken, chances are they might just need lubricants topped up or replaced, and a bit of a clean. Maybe someone experienced from a local model engineering club could take an initial look, for diagnosis at least?

There are also specialist forums at Practical Machinist for Schaublin lathes and mills where you will get plenty of help if you want to do work on the machines yourself.

Finally it might help to find someone local to you if you state your approx location (nearest big town?), or a country at least - s'pose we could guess from your user name but for all we know you're originally from the Wessex area but now live in Australia

If you can get away with a slight change in ID (17mm instead of 18mm) then more easily available 51203 bearings should work...

I'd look for a used working display of similar era on Ebay first but failing that EMS-I advertise a display they say is compatible with the round plug Newall scales via an adapter:

No idea of prices, but I suspect less than Newall

Tesco do a useful feature that many others don't - a spending cap. So if you are on a monthly contract you can set say a £5 extra charges limit, and it won't let you go over that (you can disable it of course if e.g. in an emergency abroad). Good for peace of mind that you won't be hit by a huge unintended bill.

FWIW, LandyLift also advertises on Ebay with some nice pics here.

Thread: WHICH LATHE AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO A MYFORD PLEASE.
21/02/2018 11:14:16

I was thinking that too - buying used potentially gets you so much more iron and rigidity for your money, at the expense of some uinknown amount of wear. So for lathes you're looking at e.g. 2.6 tons of S&B 1024 for £1800 (before haggling, but not including transport costs) vs 95 kg for £1500ish inc carriage (Arc SC4).

Personally having used heavier machines I'd tend that way every time, if space permits... but I can also see the argument for buying smaller and new.

No connection with the S&B seller BTW, or knowledge of its condition beyond what's in the ad - it just came up on a search just now when I was looking for an example.

For a flat(ish) roof, I'm a fan of EPDM rubber. Mine's done 12 years so far no probs, 50 year expected life... You can get DIY kits on Ebay...

This chuck presumably?

A bit 'brutal' perhaps - but would an angle grinder work to (carefully) put on some spanner flats?

Or is the hole visible on that ring for a tommy bar? If so no need for spanner flats...

I keep an eye out for machine tools on TV. This example is 23 minutes into 'The Score'. It's background in the workshop of the master criminal played by Robert de Niro.

Anyone recognise it?

Sorry folks but unless Hardinge made an exact copy of a Schaublin 102VM no it isn't

I'm fairly certain it's a rotary table for a Schaublin 53 or 53N: scroll down a bit for pics at:

and

I have a 53N: if you ever want to sell, or perhaps swap for a slightly smaller Hoffmann rotary table, please let me know!

Thread: Bench Covering?
25/10/2017 10:46:03
Posted by SillyOldDuffer on 25/10/2017 09:37:28:

A friend gave me a sample of Hospital flooring which was much heavier than any lino I've ever seen in a shop. I tried to find a source to do my kitchen floor and failed miserably. It doesn't seem to be available retail for DIY; the expectation is that it's bought as part of an outfitting package, which would be OTT for covering a bench.

My local happens to be a large Teaching Hospital. It's a constant building site and more than once I've noticed lino off-cuts dumped in a skip that would be big enough to do a bench .

Dave

Bits of industrial/safety vinyl are available on Ebay - search for e.g. "safety flooring roll end". Altro seems a good brand - I got some for my kitchen recently. Definitely much heavier duty than the 'normal' vinyl that was there before.

Thread: Pulley calculation un relable websites and actual speeds
30/08/2017 20:30:55

Hi Martin, nameplate current is usually the maximum i.e. at full load. So it will be much less normally. 1 amp sounds fine. Cheers Pete

If the motor being used is the one shown in your "new 3ph motor" album, it is indeed a two pole motor that should run at 2820 rpm on 50 Hz.

Perhaps disconnect the belts, set the inverter at 50 Hz and measure the motor rpm, so as to have a known starting point?

30/08/2017 19:05:55

Ah - if the inverter shows 50 Hz not 50 %, then I think I know what's going on.

50 Hz is 100% of normal mains frequency, so it will turn a two pole motor at around 2820 rpm like it says on the motor nameplate. Which with a 1:7 pulley reduction would give 403 rpm.

So when you had the inverter set at 100 Hz, thinking it was 100% of 'normal speed', your motor was actually whizzing round at approx twice normal speed i.e. 5640 rpm! Giving you the 800ish rpm output, after the 1:7 reduction.

That is quite possibly dangerously fast for a standard motor. Might be an idea to look at configuring your inverter so it can't go above say 60 Hz.

Perhaps someone else can double check my workings, though. I'm no longer quite sure what you measured - any chance you could specify when you quote rpm figures as above whether they are at the motor (i.e. input) or at the output (i.e. the output shaft after the pulley reduction)? And can you confirm if your inverter figures are Hz or percent?

Edit again - if the inverter shows 442 rpm (i.e. motor shaft input), and you are getting 800 rpm output after your gearing, then your pulleys are stepping up the speed 2:1! This is very strange if the pulley sizes are 1 inch and 7 inches. And what I wrote above is probably not the case.

Don't suppose you could post a picture of the set-up in case that clarifies anything?

What is the actual measured input rpm when the output rpm is 600?
