Thread: What happened to the Myford sale thread? |
16/07/2011 04:05:20 |
RDG buying all the spares may not be such a bad thing,at least it gives Myford owners all over the world access to them. |

I was about to order a leadscrew nut (part #A1975/3) for my Super 7,when the original thread started.Being in Canada I obviously can't attend the sale,so if anyone aquires any at the sale I would interested in one.Thanks,Neil. |

Thread: Bridgeport jammed knee |
13/02/2011 22:50:40 |
The practical machinist site certainly is informative and very amusing too,the method described first obviously works, but I wonder how many home workshops would have what would be needed to lay a Bridgeport on it's back, drill a 1" dia. hole in the base and heat the knee to 300 deg.? |

It may help if you removed the drip tray? |

The pressure can also be relieved with a jack. |

A crowbar may move it! |

Mine is about flush with the knee, what about a piece of threaded rod with a nut each end,and a suitable bit at the top, then unscrew them. |
Thread: MT2 collet slipping |

I don't beeelieve it,i.e.That a company such as Clausing(and others)would produce a milling machine with a set of collets that were incapable of holding a cutter securely, and may even require a brave man to use them! Unless of course MJG knows something that they didn't? I don't believe that either.Andrew J. is correct about the R8 keyway,it is the taper that does the holding,I too have used a mill without the pin with no trouble at all. Yours grippingley V.Meldrew. |

My Clausing model 8520 milling machine has a #2MT spindle and the cutters from 1/8 to 1/2 dia. are held in a collet,I have never had one come loose in the past 30 years!and it has had far more use than any hobby only machine. To remove a cutter requires a sharp blow with a copper hammer and a block of hard wood between table and quill. There are pictures and information about these very well made ,versatile and accurate machines on Google.I t would be hard to find a machine of this size that would be more suited to model engineering than the 8520. |

Thread: 4 1/2 MT |
13/10/2010 22:21:34 |
My Tool Engineers Handbook (1949) lists 6.5 &7.5 MT,the 7.5 has the same taper as the 4.5 & 0,ie 0.624 per ft.,but the 6.5 is 0.62565 per ft..Very usefull information! |
Thread: What would you pay? |
02/10/2010 17:32:29 |
No need to worry about VAT as the seller only ships to USA from Switzerland.I wonder if he would take $20 for just the drawers? They would be usefull for keeping the emery cloth clean.Although the engine is described as being handmade, it has a CNC look about it to me,as do the spares. |

Thread: Cutting Bevel Gears |
25/04/2010 18:53:48 |
I cut the differential bevels for my 3" scale Fowler using the parallel depth method, and found the Lammas information to be the most usefull, better than the Law book (imho). The gears meshed surprisingly well. Regards Neil. |
