Godfrey, Can you post up a few more details please? A make/model of minilathe, any details of the speed control board, might have an XMT number on the board somewhere or better still a picture...
We aim to please... |

Not quite in the same boat, but I submitted a claim for PPI initially to TSB, only to be told by them that Lloyds were administering matters. Submitted the relevant paperwork. Weeks went by, was told that my claim hadnt been logged yet. That was October 2019. Now to 2020. Some weeks back, got a letter from Lloyds saying they could find no record of my claim, but they had submitted one on my behalf. But as the deadlind had passed it would not be processed! I called them to be told my claim may not have been recorded yet! The letter was sent by RM requiring a signature on receipt... I have since referred the matter to the FOS... You should refer the matter to Ofgem. Take no prisoners! Edited By John Rudd on 04/10/2020 16:10:47 Edited By John Rudd on 04/10/2020 16:12:01 |
Thread: Moving a Myford VMC advice needed thanks! |
03/10/2020 16:23:06 |
My experience fwiw..... I bought an engine crane from my local 'mart' ( precede that with a device that does mechanical work). It proved its worth when the 626 mill arrived( same machine). I lifted the head off from the lower section at the rotating point. Having placed the cabinet in its final place, then proceeded to move into situ, the bottom half. Then with ropes positioned, the topworks was lifted back onto the lower half..... I used the same crane when I moved house some 3 yrs ago...split the machine into two manageable lumps and move into the garage. You could possibly break it down into more manageable lumps by removing various items but a crane makes it so easy. |

I originally had a Major round column mill, then bought the Chester equivalent of Warco's VMC...The 626. I added my own 3ph motor/vfd for less than the price difference of £500....between the std vmc and the vario....( sold the original 1ph motor...) The VMC is far better than the Major, no round column for starters....Quieter than a geared head mill too I suspect I also added a rising block too, to give more headroom between table and spindle....One of the best mods ever. Given the choices of other mills of similar size, I'd still plump for the VMC/626. |

I bought a proprietry unit that bolted to the mill table, as it was a 110v unit, it need a 110v supply, hence the cheaper route of buying a control transformer rather than a 'proprietry' unit as supplied by the 'tool merchants'... |
28/09/2020 18:21:43 |
Go to your friendly local electrical wholesaler and buy a 240/110 control transformer rated at 200VA..... if you can wire a 13A plug, you can wire up the transformer easy enough....
I paid around £30 for mine then another £20 for a suitable enclosure....still cheaper than buying from 'tool merchants'
No doubt other members will share their pearls of wisdom... |

Po
I've not looked at the forum for a few days due to the amount of members helpfully telling me 'it's an easy job with a lathe' when I specifically stated that I hadn't got access to one!
Dave Well there's gratitude for you.......I see you are inundated with offers of help.....not! |

I made my riser block for my 626 mill using my lathe, an SPG equivalent of the Warco WM290. Gripped my 6" block using the external jaws on my 3 jaw chuck, drill a centre hole and supported the mass using a live centre. Ends faced and spigot/recess turned using a moderate speed.. A relatively straight forward job... |

A couple of thoughts, I'm no expert on these things... Are there any limit switches in the circuit? Is the ram mechanically sound and able to operate in both directions? What is the small PCB for? Looks like there is at least a relay for up/down operation... No doubt our resident experts will come up with a more appropriate explanation.........🤔 Edited By John Rudd on 17/07/2020 19:11:39 |

A (sadly, now late ) friend had a control board repaired by a Forum member, in UK. Hope that I am not taking his name in vain, but I think that it was John Rudd? Howard
I have repaired many of these and other brands of controller fitted to the various mini lathes and mills owned by forum members, it is likely that Howard's friend had his repaired by me. |

Thread: Limiting pressure to a gauge |
20/10/2019 11:39:54 |
If you must install a pressure limiting device to protect your gauge, then this is the type of device you need..... maybe you could make something that is functionally the same without costing the earth...
https://www.wika.co.uk/910_13_en_co.WIKA?ProductGroup=72400
But as suggested, if the pressure is rising to the levels you state, then perhaps there is an issue elsewhere? Edited By John Rudd on 20/10/2019 11:40:45 |

What vfd do you buy? The makers manual should have a typical connection drawing showing the incoming 1ph supply with their recommended protection devices and whatever is shown on the outgoing side to the motor. Following their installation recommendations should suffice in terms of meeting any protection requirements. Typically, fused protection or rated mcb on the input and direct connection to the motor on the outgoing side with maybe a filter.
There is certainly no need for anything too complicated. For your own protection there should be an nvr switch on the primary side.
