Thread: Winding electrical coils |

Just a random thought really.
Have you tried looking for second hand coil winders on Ebay?

Thread: Poor surface finish using Myford |
29/05/2010 21:00:26 |
Hi Steve.
When I started using an ML7 somebody gave me two books, they are:-
The Amateurs Lathe, by L H Sparey.
Myford Series 7 Manual, by Ian Bradley.
These proved invaluable for setting up and using my lathe, and still get used years on.
I think they are still in print, and probably available from the My Hobbystore site,

Two companies I've used that supply all sorts of fixings including hard to find sizes. Plus lots of other stuff.

Thread: Code of Conduct |
22/05/2010 15:29:29 |
Forums need codes of conduct, also methods to curtail abuse, the code on here seems very straightforward.
People using forums should be very careful not to leave themselves vunerable to legal action. |
Thread: Trouble turning brass by a very inexperienced engineer |
13/05/2010 19:22:11 |
For what its worth here are a few things that gave me trouble when first working brass, they all created the symptoms you describe:
Incorrectly centred tools.
Unsharp tools.
Tools extended too far from toolpost.
Large areas of workpiece not supported.
Speed completely wrong.
If feeding by hand on hard materials a lack of constant pressure can occur sometimes.
All this may seem pretty basic, but it got me at first.

Great job. What a difference some TLC (plus hard work) makes.
Love the fudge tin fuel tank!

I have seen jewellery makers use something that looks like cat litter, I think it is probably Mica or Vermiculite chippings.
There are lots of jewellery tool suppliers, but for heat resisting block you could try.
Not sure where chippings come from, you could try a search.

Thread: Advice for first time visitor to Harrogate Show |

Either that or say it was all on sale and very cheap, bit like the wife does when she's been to the sales.
![]() Anyone noticed that the "smileys" are called emotions on here? I like it, sounds much better than emoticons! Edited By V8Eng on 08/05/2010 20:58:21 |
Thread: How do I demagnetise tools and parts of machines |

I keep a couple of screwdrivers magnetised. They will hold small steel screws in line when working in difficult locations.
Certainly beats dropping the things. |

Was going to suggest you take a bulletproof vest to guard against all the p***s carrying rucksacks.
I agree there, get totally fed up with being accidently smacked round the head by backpacks while looking at exhibits.
Most of the wearers seem to forget they have the things on when they turn around quickly.
Anyway thats enough of my rant, the show is still great.

Thread: Reverse an electric motor |
21/04/2010 21:00:12 |
Apologies if you've already checked this: some manufacturers fixed an instruction slip in the connection box lid. |
Thread: Can Anyone Name this Engine? |
20/04/2010 17:39:19 |
My father used to repair lawn mowers, and this looks a pretty typical mower engine.
You're lucky, at our local tip they will not let you take anything away.
I've seen lots of stuff which is very useable, but the answer is always "we are not allowed to let people take stuff out".

Thread: ZA12 - a new option for model engineers? |
19/04/2010 19:15:25 |
My apologies, every time I make a post I get a website error and a blank page - but the messages must evetually get through.
Strange, that happened to me everytime I tried to post yesterday , so I was surprised to find my posting on here.
Glad it helped anyway. |

XP keyboards.
Open control panel, followed by, date, time, language, and regional options.
Click on the Regional and language options icon, in the regional options box, click on the Languages tab then details.
Your keyboard set up will be displayed under the settings tab.
This worked for me after a recent re-install.

Thread: raising blocks |
16/04/2010 21:39:37 |
Just a thought: are you looking to replace an original stud?
Thread size might depend on whether you have actual Myford blocks. Possibly also depend on age of machine involved. Edited By V8Eng on 16/04/2010 21:40:28 |

I think they are BSF thread, not too sure about the size. Will try and check in the workshop tomorrow.
Unless somebody else can give a definitive answer before then. Edited By V8Eng on 16/04/2010 20:43:58 |

Thread: Where to sell machine tools |
27/02/2010 17:22:39 |
I notice there is a Harrison listed on the Latest "for sale" Ads here, sounds like the same model.
There are advertisers in ME and MEW selling used machinery.
As you originally suggested EBAY might well get you a good price anyway.
Good luck with your sales, pity I do not have any space left for a mill or power hacksaw! Edited By V8Eng on 27/02/2010 17:59:56 |
