Thread: Odd Motor thingy!

That's an air pump as used in laboratories.

The piston should be coupled onto the crank pin, and the output is the small pipe on the left in the bottom photo

depending on the type it may need the piston oiling at times..

The disk part is the drive rotor and I think it works a bit like an electricity meter.

I have seen them used as fish tank air pumps,

Nearly forgot, they also come in twin piston versions.

Sorry if this is the daft question of the century, so please do not shoot me down if you have already thought of it.

Have you made sure the camera image stabilisation is set to "on" ?

Thread: Help with a myford lathe??
19/03/2015 08:52:19

There's a lot of people out there using museum pieces on a regular basis, most of them refitted, tidied up and made safe.

I know of a town museum that has a round bed Drummond on permanent display, not read anyone on here describing those as museum pieces though!

As an aside: I think that to comply with UK electrical regulations, motors above a certain power need to be fitted with No Volt Release systems, perhaps one of the electrical guys on here can advise?

Edited to correct auto spell correction.

Pity it had to be announced (apparently) at the SMEE rather than on here.

A bench seat usually meant a column change, a bit vague at best.

I have seen plenty of specialist books on woodworking when visiting an Axminster store.

They are also very good online suppliers and I always find them helpful.

Have to say that I avoid woodworking (we do not get on well)!

Great news, pity they cannot rebuild the whole track. The mass destruction was never justified in the first place.

Wasn't there a minor squabble going on at the time?

There is an online article from a couple of years ago which covers the circuits history, and what happened to it in both world wars and later:

Thread: Sight glass or plastic?

Hope I do not live anywhere near you, all that certainly sounds very dangerous!

Acrylic plus heat and a solvent! I would not be risking anything like that without a qualified chemist advising me.

What you are proposing sounds very hazardous in many respects, including using open flames with vaporising flammable solvents, etc, etc.

It sounds like you may be planning to operate a still, it may be necessary to have a licence for operating one of those, certainly used to be when I was indirectly involved with the chemical industries.

Sorry to be a wet blanket but you certainly need to investigate what you propose, in considerable depth, including its possible affect on insurance.

Our washing machine has a 1600 rpm spin speed, that motor must be going pdq, considering that the poly vee drive is from a very small motor pulley to a large pulley on the drum
