Thread: UK fires up old coal power plant as gas prices soar
03/11/2021 09:16:37
Posted by J Hancock on 03/11/2021 09:06:53:

A really special day today , 0840hrs.

The entire output of our coal-fired stations being exported to Europe via the interconnectors.

Does that mean the recipients are effectively exporting their pollution to the U.K.?

Many folk thought that with europe 1 hour ahead of us that it would be a good idea to drop GMT(or UTC) and stay on summer time all year and be the same as Europe- NOT realising that Europe also has summer time and move their clocks back and forth, on the same day we do. Ah well, Noel.

The EU were apparently doing away with the Summer/Winter time changes and with any luck the U.K. would have followed.

It got voted through then seems to have got bogged down the mass of countries involved.

The EU had a chance to do something useful then appear to have fallen at the hurdles.

A search/question on the RHS website can help provide info as in this one for Oxalis (I’ve got grass/moss not a lawn).

Thread: Pocketmags issues out before ME?
16/10/2021 20:03:32
Posted by Peter Seymour-Howell on 15/10/2021 15:35:27:

I just tried to find how to link myself via the Pocketmags site, I think I've found a page under 'my account' (evidently I opened an account some years back for some Porsche mags) then in 'my library' and then 'activate subscription' i then get stuck when it askes for an 'order number', I tried entering my subscription number but that didn't work?

Pete...

Hello Pete.

Sorry for the delay in replying (lots went wrong) and my how to memory would not function.

I found this editorial page right here on the ME website.hope it’s the right one.

Hi Pete.

If you have a MyTimeMedia account on here it can be connected to Pocketmags (second subscription not needed).

You can look at purchased digital issues but I do not think the back issue facility is available on Pocketmags (not 100% sure on that).

It is about 8 years since I linked my subs into the Pocketmags APP so now desperately trying to remember how it works!

I think it involved the ME subs number and my email address.

I am taking the Wife for an appointment now so will try and work it all out later unless some kind person comes along with the method before them!

regards. V8.

I was also a little surprised to see ME 4676 & MEW 309 on Pocketmags before here.

I am a digital only subscriber for both on MyTimeMedia to get access to the back issues with the account linked to Pocketmags as well.

Thread: Workshop lighting / energy costs

No mention of the fridge/freezer by anyone .

Got a Chest freezer one side of my workshop (helps keep the temp up a bit in winter).

Something that did rather surprise me is TV sets. We have a three year old one without an on-off switch and one about 7 years old with an on-off switch and green energy compliance label (same make).

Never bothered to measure the house consumption being frugal we switch stuff off as we go.

… complete with the typically crass aside : Plus, classic car insurance is typically cheap, at least if the vehicle does not do much mileage. However, rates may rise sharply if you tell your insurance provider that there is now a Tesla engine under the bonnet that has made the vehicle significantly quicker.

Uninsured vehicle if you don’t tell them though!

Not so clever risking electrocution though.

Winter is nigh I must check my generator out and get some fuel!

Edited By V8Eng on 16/09/2021 23:19:30

Don't forget that from reports in the USA wrt overwintered small equipment the new improved E10 fuel doesn't store well.

Thanks for that info Bazyle have to watch that one as I have petrol for various garden machinery as well.

Perhaps I will investigate the preservative additives.

16/09/2021 23:17:24

Apparently the French inter-connecter has caught fire and likely to be out action for some time possibly with only half power at some stage

Of course predictions suggest consumer bills will rise.

Could anybody please explain why it is considered sensible to turn productive farmland over to "solar farms" instead of installing the panels over supermarket parking spaces? My suspicious mind wonders whether once the panels age and fail they will be removed leaving a brownfield site that can be used for housing.

Brian G

So many massive warehouses seem to be getting erected they could become solar generators if the roofs were covered in panels.

I wonder how much additional pollution that lot caused today!

A possibly similar model Warco sold on eBay in May for £690 it looked nice in the photos.

No guarantee what another one would fetch but I have included a link here so you can check it out model wise etc.
