I have a Warco VMC mill it's not had too much use from new but have noticed an alignment problem.

Have looked at previous posts on how to align this is what I have.

Winding the table up and down the dial indicator shows no deflection on the vertical face of the machine vice.

When I wind the head down even with it being tightened to allow for any slop in it the DTI shows o.oo2" over about 2" vertical vice jaw.

It seems the head has a sag towards me everything is bolted tight

Any easy way to sort this

I got the Aldi portable band saw yesterday and gave it a try today on some ally bar the vice looks rubbish but it gripped ok.

Waiting to try it on some big lumps of ally soon but seems to work fine have ordered some spare blades and hope there are no problems cutting en24 wonder if should arrange a positive coolant system for that.

I have a lot of metal to cut so have ordered the Aldi portable band saw so will get a lot of use just hope is as good as the comments on the Aldi site

Been looking on the web to find the ideal lift for the larger ball valves on piston water and fuel pumps valves and at the moment hit a blank.

My model with 0.1875" balls has a lift of 0.014" restricted lift and is fine.

Is there a formula to determine the lift bearing in mind ball diameter piston diameter and stroke..

Any useful advice welcome thank you.

With most of my tig welding it was very low amp settings for the thin stainless tube I was fusing together.

I read somewhere be careful with some auto darkening helmets as on such low welding settings they might not darken.

Has any member had dealings with Bearings labelled Dunlop.

I have just received 6mm and 8mm bore plain spherical bearings for a linkage.

The outer is split like some other similar small spherical bearings by SKF I suppose so they can press the ball in the outer housing.

Have found a lot of side play in the Dunlop ones even when I nipped the outer in a collet.

A small imperial steel on steel spherical plain bearing I was given has less than 8mm bore with a solid outer and shows no play at all in any direction.

A year ago I bought some 45mm bearing locknuts some were made by Dunlop with very oversize threads compared to some other makers 45mm locknuts.

When I buy anymore bearing bits and pieces on Ebay will make sure they are not made by Dunlop.

These part were not expensive so put it down to poor quality control.

Graham showed other steam rocket machines that others have drove a scooter was fascinating that pressurised the pressure vessel over a barbecue the machine was so hot the rider had to stand up still it did 146mph.

Evel Spirit was another similar to Evel Knievel unsuccessful steam rocket but this one was successful.

It was PEEMS first club meeting of 2019 and what a treat for speed enthusiast members.

This small club was packed with members and guests many from the speed scene for my friend Graham Sykes Steam Rocket Bike talk.

Grahams Wife has a wealth of knowledge on this creation and was also involved in making the pressure vessel insulation blanket apart from other things.

Amongst the guest were previous talker Becci Ellis fastest women and others that have done fantastic speeds at Elvington, Pendine and other venues including the TT.

PEEMS has such a variation of interests that was the main reason why I joined years ago.

I bought these scale many years ago at a car boot and used them for weighing my flash steamers crankshaft balance factor weights.

I'm not sure if a commercial item or someone specially made it.

The pans are on knife edges and is well made.

Anyone know anything about it,

Have seen video of one repairer having a stout upright fixed steel bar with probably a lead block on top just banging the offset flywheel on it a recommended way in some books.

The bearings are mainly for aligning the pressed up crankshaft similar to a Alpha-Tru aligner the straight edges for balancing.

The crankshaft aligner or the crank on it.

Yesterday was talking to two fellow motorcycle speed record nuts hopefully next year a Gem gas turbine streamliner will be tested.

Friend Graham should be giving a talk at PEEMS club early next year about his steam rocket bike a work of engineering excellence.

Myself finished last night my crankshaft aligning with detachable straight edges for balancing jig.

The base feet and straight edges can be adjusted for levelling.

Apart for £2 for shims everything else was from my spares box the 20mm ally was donated by another speed enthusiast.

What about using a full size vale and machining to the size you require.

My flash steamer valve is a Rover K series exhaust valve and can machine with sharp HSS tools.

Make sure its valve with a non welded head also check material some pattern valves are not that good.

En 21-4N is good genuine old 650 Triumph exhaust valves were made of that cheaper types would tulip or worse.
