Gentlemen,

Life has never been so quiet and productive since I bought a call blocking phone system, the PPI, Accident chasers and SPAM dont bother me at all now, I know they rang but the phone doesnt ring unless the person trying to contact tells the system their name, Heaven angel

Twenty years ago, whilst working for a machine tool business, I had to go to a company in South Wales who manufactured Berylliium insulators, when I arrived on site I was asked if I had any clothes that could be destroyed and because I didnt I was issued with a paper suit, breathing hood and sealed gloves. The machines in the building were in negative pressure cabinets and were loaded by the operators through glass doors so air was drawn into the box. I had to fault find and replace circuit boards on a surface grinder with thick rubber gloves and when I finished I was hoovered down as I left the machine cabinet and then had to remove the suit and shower before putting my clothes back on.

When is was leaving site I asked the customer what happened to the machines when they were worn out and he pointed to JCB and a derelict site, all old plant was buried in the ground as they were not allowed to sell the machines because they couldnt guarantee that they were clean.

The next time the machines had a problem we would send spares and fix them over the phone as our company wouldnt send anybody else after me to fix them.

Thread: Automate the Shutter button

Neil,

Found the answer, went onto Amazon to get what you suggested and found a switch with cable which plugs into the mini USB on my camera which operates the trigger electronically and it also has a lock for the B function so no more snatching of cables or buttons.

Neil,

Everything works ok, the problem is the idiot operating the camera, I have this problem when using the button or a cable in that I snatch and cause a shake particularly when using the B function which requires me to hold the button pressed for the time required up to a max of 30 seconds so I thought I could make a device to do it for me.

sorry forgot that bit, I want to fit a solenoid which is controlled by a timer which can be set to work up to the camera's max of 30 seconds.

Gentlemen,

My camera doesn't have a delayed shutter timer, technically is does but I have to hold the button down for up to 30 seconds, so I thought that I would replace my finger with an automated device but I have no idea what the thread is in the middle of my shutter button, can anybody help please.

As said by others they are all useful, I have a fair selection of your list and make a point of buying one or two when I visit Model Engineering shows as I find they add to my knowledge or remind me of what I was taught many moons ago.

Thread: How much ?
04/04/2015 19:08:19

Merlin,

I've had this arguement on another Forum I visit, it makes this Forum seem seriously educatedsmiley, a lot of the people, mostly I assume youngsters, seem to write in text speak which for the intelligent is intelligible, they get the hump if nobody answers, mainly I assume because we cant be bothered to decipher.

May I suggest you pop along to your local Astronomical Society meetings and try a few scopes out before you buy? Most clubs have scopes they loan to beginners. Try the various instruments for weight and working height. Here's a list of UK societies...

Thanks for that, theres a society not far from me, have been and looked at their Website which is an interesting read.

Gentlemen,

Can I make a small suggestion regarding this thread, I enjoy reading it as I find it very interesting but if for what ever reason I don't get the chance to catch up for a few days I get into a muddle over whats being said and how far back the previous post was, could we mark our replies with either a number that corresponds to all of the particular post or head each post with the original title.

Jason,

All I can say is that many years ago I belonged to a Photography Club and we had a camera manufacturer at one meeting and he told us what the thread was and that is what I've stuck to, 1/4 whit.

My latest camera is not that old and the tripod fits nicely so assumed its still the same and I've had no reason to believe otherwise.

Neil, Michael,

The tripod fitting on Camera's is 1/4" Whit its a standard that been there for years.

I am fortunate that I live in a village with very few street lamps, there are two in my crescent, one at each end.The nearest towns are 4 -5 miles east and west of me so there is no real light polution.

Good evening Neil, At the moment all I want is a means of looking at the stars, an equatorial mount can come later, I do have a friend who used to make programmable mounts and I will approach him for his view point.

I will look on the internet for a skywatcher Heritage 130P

Thanks for your assistance, there maybe more questions.

Neil,

Reading your musings regarding the Sky at Night I get the impression you may know what your talking about wink my wife and I have always had a passing interest regarding star watching and have so far got on with the MK1 eyeball and a decent pair of binoculars, because of health reasons I am begrudgingly likely to move away from my current hobby of humping stationary engines to Rally's.

I enjoy photography and would like to purchase a telescope and was wondering if you could point me in the direction of a reasonable scope and how its possible to take pictures through the scope with a Camera, my current camera is a Fuji Finepics 9500 bridge camera or would a webcam be an easier means of getting pictures.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the information I like your idea's, as some of you know I restore stationary engines and maybe I could build a magnetiser for re magnetising my magneto magnets, the other bits are always useful.

Gentlemen,

This question is purely for curiosity but are there any useful parts inside a Microwave, these pop up on Freecycle regularly in "working order" my first thoughts are pieces of stainless sheet but what use are the guts.
