I've just finished a project for a friend machining 75mm dia EN1A at a higher speed, 1000 rpm roughly, than you 0.5mm cuts at a slow feed rate and got a good finish.

....so far you are swaying me towards the Stuart model! I believe that also is not an easy model to make.

My Grandfather made a Stuart Triple Expansion engine on his Treddle lathe forty years ago so I cant be that difficult to build smiley he ran it in one of his model Tug boats.

My mother still has it as an ornament.

I must say that our parish councillor is very good, If I email her with a picture and location of a hole in our village roads the council workers do come within 24hrs to fill the hole but not necessarily repair it.

Many years ago the University of East Anglia went around the Norfolk and Suffolk counties filming and recording the the people particularly the older population to keep the dialect alive.

The only snag was the deplorable state of the public roads going to and from the sales ground. Endless pot holes and large areas of worn-out surfaces. I came back via Quainton - a most uncomfortable journey. The local highways agency should be ashamed of themselves.

I appreciate that this is beyond the control or influence of the sale organisers.

Eric

It must be said that Worminghall Airfield is in the middle of nowhere and like Beds county council where I live in a village priority is on main roads and bus routes, my route via Aylesbury was not to bad.

Around here "a young old boy" refers to someone who is the same age or younger than yourself.

I int a'gewing = I am not going

Wurny = Wasn't he

A mistake = A Bedfordshire clanger ( and if you have ever eaten one you might know what I mean) laugh

Rik

Nowt wrong with the Bedfordshire Clanger, I have one most Saturdays bought from Gunn's of Sandy.

My friend and I left home at 05:30 this morning to get a good selling pitch, arrived at 06:45 and within five minutes was £150 better off and a lighter trailer by 11:30 when we left I had sold another £100 of engine bits and was a good boy and only bought six rolls of blue paper cleaning material, my wife was happy I didnt come home with another engine.

The money will go towards a VFD to upgrade my lathe.

Thread: Hi from Bedford

Good afternoon John, welcome to the mad house, I live just outside Bedford on the east side, I'm not into Model Engineering per say I restore Stationary Engines to show at vintage rally's, if you need a use of a lathe whilst restoring yours just ask, mine is not large but I've recently machined some 75mm rollers for a friend.

Having removed two engines from my garage ready for sale this weekend I've spent the last two days building a new bench in the space they took up, I've used 4" x 2" for the main frame but couldn't remember what sizes of ply wood for the bench top there were so I went and spoke to a neighbour who builds Bespoke kitchens and he offered me a 3 metre x 600 mm x 50 mm worktop he had lying around FOC, it will have a steel top when its finished so we picked it up to take over to my house, I struggled to carry my end, so put it down for a moment where upon my neighbour, 30 years my junior, picked it up stuck it on his shoulder and carried it to my yard, oh to be young again.

I'm offering a 2hp Lister D Bruston Generating set, 110 volt 9 amps, its complete not seized but needs work to get back to running order, a tank cooled Lister B with no magneto, but complete and ready to run and a vertical band saw on a stand with blades, it does run but needs the motor looking at, plus a load of Lister D spares and some large G clamps.
