Dave, Copper Sulphate (CuSo4) is copper disolved in sulphuric acid. Get some battery acid Russ and chuck some bits of copper into it (Scrap preferably) and leave until no more will disolve in it. Solution will be a green colour (Like Kryptonite) ALTERNATIVELY you could use the remaints of a pickle bath if you said "Damn the Elfins" and used battery acid let down to a reasonable level and dunked yer copper boilers in it after silver soldering them ORRRRR, the REALLY whimpy way, by getting some Copper Sulphate crystals from the Chemist (Yer gonna have to tell him what yer want them for) and mixing with diluted H2O (Water). Oh aye, trade name was "Killed Spirits" and we also used it as flux for NON electrical soldering, -----  Tinplate days.

Local RAF Station (If there's one near you Peter) may have some bits of scrap.
 
 Last time I saw a similar size required, it was for the scape wheel on a clock design in ME.

And whoever writes the article, be sure to include a FOOLPROOF way of keeping turnings and crud off the nice expensive heads and slides 
 
   Lifespan?? Not alot if you manage to "Tap" them with a spanner or chuck key.
 
   Can you put an article in MEW teaching people how to read "Handraulic" measuring tools, dials and how to compensate for backlash David???

Untill today I did have the overlap which is now clear, BUT, on another stream, is there no mechanism to put into ones own account box the fact that a message is waiting, without having to open the "My Messages" box??

Do you mean use a 6mm Dia. cutter to mill a 6mm wide slot?? If so, no. On a purely PERSONAL note, if you drill the limits of the slot with the required dia. of drill and then machine to width with a 5mm cutter, you ensure (Providing you don't climb mill) that both sides of the slot are clean. If you've tried the size for size method, you already know what I mean.
 
   Let's NOT get into flamers about "Climb" milling, the newbies have more than enough going against them to start with.

"R O'Connor" First carefully put the Stuart castings away. Then have a trip to the local library (Now THERE'S an experience) and get a book out on Mechanical drawing practice. Simple as you can find, at least  it will give you the feel of what symbols and what they mean are used. Then have a look at a couple of titles on here by "H. Hall" ( No connection and usual disclaimer) to pick up a few machining tips.
  The FIRST engine you should be looking at makinng would be an Oscillator (Or Wobbler as the Yanks call them), SIMPLE, but accuracy is required to get them to run properly and the same rules apply for every other engine you a re likely to come across.
 THINK before you do anything cos this ingineerin thing BITES (an sometimes it hurts)

What most forget, is that if their machining is so crappy that a "shim" won't seal it, your never going to get things to line up properly cos of variable compression in thicker "Seals".  "Figure of eight" on the finest Silly Cone carbide paper (OK. Wet & Dry to anyone under forty five -ish) over glass using "Brasso" as the  wetting medium.

Can't you chat up a bathroom/kitchen tiler?? The circular saws used for tile cutting would help. You can also buy the diamond cutting disks separately. Bonk & quonk  or slewfix??

Awwww shucks guy's you go to the trouble of making engines and then palm off the easy bit to Mochine mute and screwyflix, what happened to the good old ex - fridge compressor, a few bits of tube etc.???

Gloss on one side and rough on the other, the golden oldies always seem to last, Braan paper, the type used for packing parcels, cheap (Yorkshire trait) forgiving and reliable. Use a layer of oil to seat it.

Never heard of "Tupperware" David??? But if you nick one from SWTSMBO, be prepared to Ruuuuuuuuuuuun. 'Salso a good idea to CLEARLY mark the container with a Skull and Crossbones (Well, you don't want your boiler covered in Icing Sugar do you???) The Citric ain't poisonous but the dissolved Copper in it gives it a "Distinct" taste.
