And be careful not to damage the first row, like the tiles on a roof. Damage the bottom row and start all over again.

"The original was designed by an Australian chap"

No, the original was in use long before we started the export trade to Aus. Mick B1 has it. Wonder how long it will be before the pole lathe is "Reinvented?" Oh, sorry, Mifford have done this already.

Question worth asking, are you sure the shaft is bent? Seen so many good models let down with the flywheel exhibiting a distinct wobble. Worth checking the shaft with a "Clock".

"You see it a lot with rechargeables where only one cell in the circuit has drained, the other one or two are fine"

But we've known this since the first "Deacs" were used for R/C applications and is the reason there's a lively trade in cordless power tool replacement packs and ALL rechargeable cell applications.

Thread: Making a knurled thumb wheel

Thanks for that Steve. Ask any question regards of how to do a certain job and you'll get different answers proportional to the number of people asked. I was lucky in the respect that the toolroom I started my hingineering career as the youngest of five in the department, next youngest was 55. Boy, did they know their onions. In seeing you do something "Dodgy", first warning would be a shout. Second offence would be a kick up the posterior and third a piece of 4 x 2 on the back of the head. I never achieved the "Honour" of stage two or three and they managed to make sure I didn't suffer from some of their "Battle scars". Learned more under their collective wings than the "Book" ways and Tech.

As a true Yorkshireman, the words "It only cost a pound" means you WASTED 66.6 pence! angry

"As we appear to have drifted a little off-topic"

???

Thought topic was "New Scam".

Fell foul years ago of a very "Official" letter from Microsloth advising I should change my e-mail password as it had been compromised. No it hadn't, couple of hours later, wife sat opposite me on her own Laptop said Why are you in Spain needing money to pay for a hotel bill?"

Warning letters are not the problem, opening LINKS is.

Not an unexpected reply/retort Steve. No videos forthcoming, it's one of the problems generated by T'internet forums where seasoned members show cringeworthy operations to the great unwashed who are led to believe this is the correct way to do it. After nigh on sixty years involved in ingineering, strange as it may seem, I too have had wally moments but despite these, never managed to loose bits of my anatomy, unlike many of my mentors. Me late great, mate would have been less complimentary with a two word reply.

Shoulda, woulda couda is no consolation sat in the casualty department.

Regards Ian.

Yes Steve, your spilling is atroshus, it shud have been CUR Clit.

Thread: NEW SCAM
09/05/2021 11:12:28

The levels of sophistication that todays scammers exhibit make it difficult to separate the corn from the chaff.

Remember Timeshare? Thirty years ago, a place in the Sun was a compelling inducement. After ten years of ever increasing and extortionate "maintenance" charges, the penny dropped that due to the various ties in the inability to sell your "Investment" , left the choice of two scenarios. One, to carry on being fleeced or two, cut your losses and walk away. So, twenty one years ago, I chose the latter.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. A phone call from a company in the Canaries, informed me that dissolved timeshare company records showed me as a previous owner.

First part of scam, these could only have been obtained by illegally hacking records.

Next, you can't "Walk away" from ownership and a company buying the "Assets" of a said dissolved timeshare operation can claim for back maintenance, in my case twenty one years. Last charge then was about 450Euros so quite a bob or two by now. Only way out is to "Hire" a lawyer versed in Spanish law to legally dissolve ownership, cost ?, about £7000 upwards. Would seem to depend on whether you have a second income or hold Offshore assets, otherwise, "New" owners can have English Bailiffs knock on your door to realise debt collection.

Second part of scam, the sweetener. When you've legally disconnected, the lawyers can then persue a claim for reimbursement of original timeshare purchase price plus ALL back maintenance charges as due to legislation, the original sale was illegal.

Caller seemed to loose interest when informed I was a single (now) septagenarian on basic state pension with no assets.

Any other muppets (Like me) who were sold the dream and now contacted like this? Tell them you sold on years ago and end the call.

Regards Ian.

If it grabs? When. Especially since there's a good chance due to the Knurl. Think I'd have drilled and tapped and used a piece of stainless all thread, could have made three from that lump. And "One for the newbies" ? Is this to show what a wally a seasoned member can be and "Don't try this at home"??

When the above posting is modded due to the "Overlap", this seems to occur when you add the " and then insert a cut and paste quotation instead of the "Norm" of adding the whole posting and wasting space.

Didn't get this with the old system, DOH!

Regards Ian.

P.S. Spline chunk still don't work.

"I can buy paraffin from a local motor factor in 20 or 25L drums, though it's dearer than petrol."

When did that happen? Used to trip down to the local Esso Blee Dooler for a gallon for the room heater.

And to ease your pain even further Tim, Drill a hole in the bar for the bottom of the slot, saw out the bit from the end and then subsequent milling operation is merely a "skimming" clean up. Might seem long winded but saves the cutter.

Without casting nasturtions on the O/P, it's a common sign of the times "Where do I buy" sindrome. It seems that the old method of MAKING parts to make parts is dying due to the miss conception that time is of the utmost importance. Another thread running at this time is expounding the virtues of repair. Wouldn't advocate trying to make a wheel bearing for a car, but a bolt and a bit of slotted square bar??????

If you mean razor blades, Blue Gillette carbon steel ones. If scalpel blades, Swan Morton carbon steel blades, NOT Stainless. Carbons can be re honed easily.

Thanks for that Jason, don't know how the old "Underlap" problem occurred, shades of a few years ago. Bit like XP, get the system working properly and then some bright spark decides he knows a better system????

As an addition, spline chunk doesn't work either.

Regards Ian.
