I think this is an original Myford drawing for the spindle nose, not sure how easily those -ve figures would translate to modern H & h fits. Certainly easer to see how many thou under or over you can be than having to go looking up charts and working out what the tolerences are in microns. |

This is the cast alloy bottom of an old feeder I threw into the scrap metal bin a few weeks ago. Tap would well in just by hand |

I'd just let F360 write the code after clicking one hole. But it all comes down to what you have so marking out using a Myford Bull gear and compromised indent may have to do. |

More often a slow connection or fat fingers at the poster's end. |

1.8mm pitch is close to 14tpi, 1/2" BSP is 20.995 OD so could be that |

But on the other hand lets encourage people to send in articles otherwise you won't have content to complain about Well actually you will as there will be moans about Neil using old articles to bulk out the content. I'm happy with either and know what is meant, maybe it's because I'm a bit common and never went to a posh school where Latin was a subject Edited By JasonB on 17/09/2023 07:29:41 |

On the left is "mm 0.01" that is what each division measures. The "0-10" is total travel. Each complete turn of the needle will be 1.0mm and for each of those rotations the small "clock" upper centre will count upto 10. Was there any tooling with teh machine a sthat would be something else you could clock and compare results with. |

Yep 0.15mm whch is still not that good, Put the indicator into the spindle taper and see what that reads. |

Earlier posts seem to suggest INT40 in a Beaver Mill |

I'd say it is a masive error for a £10 arbor let alone a £50.00 one. Should be looking for about 0,015mm or less. Have you checked the spindle and/or something else in the taper to see if the 2nd hand machine is the problem? How many divisions on your gauge was the needle actully moving, sounds like you may be reading it wrong unles steh needle was making about three ful revolutions. I suppose drawings would be usefull if you had a basket case lathe where parts were missing or badly worn so you may not be able to take your own measurements and you had the means to make replacements. Would be interesting to know what fits and finishes, material specs, heat treatments, etc might be on this new drawing set unless you knew what were on the Myford originals were that may be a problem. |

Old drawings certainly have all the options on the same sheet, I've not actually got the book but think it only covers the vertical 10 V though most parts are the same between the two engines including space between bearings and the bearings themselves. |

If producing the drawings with CAD then why not put dual decimal dimensions which will suit the oldies and also the newer owners who have been brought up with metric |

More chance of getting a true plain hole than tapping it. Same goes for (hand) threading a piece of bar M12 |

Probably the same way I would put a pipe thread or UNEF spark plug thread on a metric drawing. That's the same way someone may put a M10 x 1 spark plug thread on an imperial drawing. Edited By JasonB on 15/09/2023 20:37:37 |

If you are going out to buy some then 638 or similar by another maker |

As there is no pulling force on the stud you could just loctite a piece of 12mm dia steel into a 12mm hole. |
