+1 for the saddle maybe being a little sloppy.

That was a problem with my S7

IIRC the rear bed face had a little wear and also mine did not have all the shims between the saddle and rear saddle strip! They just left the bolts loose... so it could float around as it wanted.

Finished off a log and brush moving trolley (for tree surgery) by painting it yesterday and testing it out today.

It was started around November 1951 ! in Model Engineer by Duplex.

I finally made a copy of the drill grinding jig from Model Engineer from the 50`S ? Not sure if this was the Potts or not? It has a fair bit of engineering in such a small item

Odd thing is, I can actually hand sharpen fairly well. But the fun is in the building I guess

There is a two toothed driving washer (not sure of correct name) that may be the issue. I had this fail on mine but cant remember full symptoms. It did drive but relied on friction to power it. It can be found on the clutch assy underneath the nut on the left hand side.

The Acute grinder sharpens end mills without a problem. I use a Harold Hall rest I made for shaping lathe tools.

I made mine from stock metal so didnt cost too much either.

Both use the same standard grinder I can change between the two in minutes.

I only use a caliper for a quick measurement. If I need a good fit the micrometer comes out.

As far as what is a best buy, its what the pocket can afford.

I made one of the Myfordboy saws from plans. Cuts very accurately using a normal metal blade, and the vice holds short pieces well.

Mine uses 17mm hex for the main saw frame, and stock metal for the rest.

Probably the hardest part to locate, for me, was the motor.

Must have cost about £120 plus a fair bit of time.
