Very interesting.

The engine came with grease nipples for most of the bearings and I think it best to convert to oilers. I never imagined there could be so many different greases including those which attack bronze! Great !. I know which oil to use and had practice at making wicks.

Thank you Michael. I think the gent who recomended no2 grease is from an age when there where nt many types of grease !

I have a 6inch traction engine with lots of grease nipples for the bronze bearings. I have been told to use no 2 grease.

There seem to be many types of no 2 grease some of which only up to 80c which seems a bit cool for main traction engine bearings etc. Any ideas please.

Bookbinding pastes only. Archival pva very good for most uses but sets rather quickly so for large areas ie end papers,wheat starch is easier. Pva and starch pastes can be mixed.

If you use any of the other things mentooned on here you will have acid burnt paper in no time . Wheat starch can be bought ready to use or pva/ starch mixed together.Many proper bookbinding suppliers stock them. They are also water soluble and reversible

These are not expensive glues.

Its a standard 16mm chuck but B6 is clearly stamped on it. It s B16 most likely then!

I know the answer to this but I have been looking for so long now given up!

I have bought a chinese bench drill with a dreadfull chuck . It has B6 stamped on it. Where oh where do I get a B6 taper chuck from  please?

I could do with a small detachable drilling attachment for my lathe Steve Jordan type of thing. There are a few cylinder motors which would suit on ebay but I ve never heard the names before and dont know which,if any,are worth buying.( I ve heard of banggood!) Its for 1 to 5 mm holes in cast iron,mild steel or gm. Thank you ,.Jonathon

Something which I can put a small chuck or collets on.

Thank you Andy and Pete. I did nt want to buy a generic drill because of quill wobble mostly but I can drill through the casting and put a bolt through!

proxxon not quite up to their price perhaps ..

I m looking for a mini drilling machine for use on metal. Not a huge amount of money though. Wondered about a Proxxon mf70. Does anyone know if the little motor would be succesful on cast iron Stuart cylinder and 16mm garden railway size things. Thanks very much . Jonathon

I bought some treated brown paper a few years ago which helped. Then I used slideways oil ,brown paper on top and had virtualy no trouble.

Thats it speedy. Build quality doesnt matter toooo much ! As its only going to be used for small to medium model engineering. It should last me for ever ish. When I told the seller I d have it I m sure I heard a sigh of relief!

Anyone heard of a Warco wm15 milling machine please? I ve seen one for sale but think it may be too big. I ve worked out rough size but could really do with weight as 120 kg is max for

The only fittings I ve ever seen for hòlding belly tanks in place were steel bands around the boiler held on with bolts going into thresded holes through the boiler, I m not doing that! All I can think of is steel bands with a little weld to join them but the tanks might still move around the boiler. Its a 12 inch diameter steel boiler. Thanks

Hermes never lost anything but have thrown them over a 6 ft high fence sometimes.

I will do oldmart. Seems its quite big so I ll have nothing to worry about model engineering . I might keep the chinese one too for tiny milling.
