Thanks once again for all the detailed answers. If I’m reading correctly then the general opinion seams to air towards ER32 so may start off with this. Not the end of the world to buy ER 25 in the future.

Ah ok, I think I must have missed the obvious in the fact of diameter capacity. Can’t see me needing more than 16mm but is it another case of run with 32 to future proof possible needs in cutters. I’m quickly learning that so many purchase decisions in this hobby are either unnecessary or wrong type....it’s a minefield to the uninitiated Lol!

I think I may set up camp within the beginners question section. Took delivery of the nice shiny new mill today and going to purchase a few more tools as required. I would like to start with an ER Collet set but can’t seem to locate any information on which one would suit my needs amongst the array of sizes available. The mill is a WM16b.

Carpenter myself but never seen anything like that. The fact it has a tang may be suggests it’s use is via a Carpenters brace and possibly used to lock onto some form of spindel for further grip/torque? Keen to know myself.

Many thanks again for all your comments. After reading them I’ve just contacted Steve at Warco and changed the order for a 3 axis and scale.

Apologies if this has been answered before but I’m awaiting the new Mill from Warco and I’ve been told that my DRO is on back order. My question is that I was advised the 2 axis will be fine due to a readout on the quill. Just watching a video from Ades workshop and he has fitted a three axis to his mill. Still time to change my order at this stage if I have made a mistake and would be keen to hear the benefits or not as the case may be.

Thanks for that Clive great idea. Just finished stripping out the corner of shelving and fitting electrics so I’m sure there should be plenty of space now. 1.4w x 720 deep and 1m high.
Not sure it’s quite so normal for an ex Rugby playing builder to be so excited about delivery but will just have to run with it.....determined to impress Bill with my first apprentice project pics Lol!         Clay

Hi Roger, thanks for the link to your thread, very useful, and interesting solution to your install issues. Fortunate in having a heavy duty table lift as like most years in the building game my back, like most isn’t as good as it was. I’m very lucky to have a decent workshop but it’s nicely fitted for joinery and half my issues were in miserly freeing of space for this addictive new hobby that is model engineering. Finally committed to giving myself more space so no longer an issue, although careful saw dust cleaning and protection may be required.

Hi Steve, yes I’m like a kid at Christmas and just had an Email to say shipment has landed and early March is looking good. Just checked out your videos, looks like we’re kindred spirits on the car front. Gave the bikes up after one too many scary moments. Ride safe fella.

Seeing this thread from a position of a total novice entering the forum to gain advice and direction. It’s blatantly obvious that the experience you guys bring to the table is invaluable and I totally get the ‘here we go again” attitude towards what may appear mundane questions. Having taken on several apprentice Carpenters over the years some who have gone on to be very successful in there field, it has struck me after reading this thread that I must have repeated advice, teaching and direction many many times but hopefully had the desired effect. Surely the fact that most of the mundane posts are within the beginners section must ease the ‘not again’ questions. There is a danger of losing new members also if there is a perspective that only die hard engineers who would rather not be bothered by such whipper snappers questions becomes a relevant ideal. This is in no way an attack and the forum is one of the most well run and informative I have seen but come on guys keep answering the simple stuff where you can and are able to help us young 59 year old ME apprentice wannabes.

Just what I find so helpful about this forum, simple but clever tips like that, thanks Rod.

Hi all. Well the workshop is prepped, the WM16B is on order, forum has been scanned to an inch of its life to soak up your obvious impressive knowledge and a nice delivery of tooling has been purchased. I have bought some 8mm parallels but keep noticing Wavy Parallels. Question is are they handy and more importantly why and when would I use them and just how precision are they.
