Thread: Kennedy Hexacut machine hacksaw
27/08/2023 09:49:26

I think I’ll do this. What length belt and where did you get it? I can turn up a new pulley in aluminium.
You should be ashamed of the brass swarf - but don’t worry too much. I’ll post pics of the area under MY saw!

Thank you for all your help. Pro tem I have bought a Scheppach bandsaw from Screwfix and, after fettling, it it does what I want, viz making brass discs for my friend the golf pro to use in the ball machine. I didn't realise how much I relied on the Kennedy.

I had a big metal bandsaw years ago but could never get it to do what I wanted and sold it. The Scheppach now cuts square - and quickly! - and the job is now done.

I will revisit the Kennedy at a later date, probably with v-belts. Having reached a dead halt had prevented me from getting on with other projects of a more important nature - including viola bows.

What a great site this is!

I can't part off well enough on my ML7. I am just a violin/bow maker so at the lower level of engineering ability - though I do good work on bows.

I think a poly-Vee belt sounds like the way to go. Current driving pulley 21.3 mm o/d, 16 mm i/d, driven pulley 150 mm o/d.

Can belts be had in different lengths?

Or should I buy a portable machine hacksaw - Scheppach - from Screwfix and put it on its stand.

The belt disintegrated on my hacksaw, which has been a good and faithful servant. Tony at Lathes was very helpful and sent a belt, It kept slipping and he sent another FOC.

Now it won't cut square. I have managed to tighten the front section with the help of Ian Jamieson - may his name be praised - but the saw won't cut square. I have fiddled about with the hexagonal guides/shim but to no avail.

I was making 1.8 mm discs from 28 mm brass rod, grinding them flat on the disc/belt sander and then slicing them. This is to make discs for the ball dispenser at the golf club - the pro can't buy them. I then machine a slot to fit in the machine.

I have now given up. Has a skilful person got any suggestions?

I make all sorts, but nowadays bows for violin/viola/cello.

Thread: Filing rest - hardened guides ruining files

I made a filing rest for octagonal silver and ebony violin/cello adjusters. I used mini bearings from Arceurotrade and haven’t had problems.

Thread: Over 70 Driving Licence Renewal

I made the mistake of applying on line when I reached 70 and lost entitlement to drive our motorhome, which is a Hymer-type Niesman-Bischoff. Do not do this! My GP was going to charge £150 for a medical, but a friend did it for nothing. (He is a GP and now my GP.) The whole business took ages.

Bill Phinn expresses it very well. I am a linguist, and it is a minefield. Even Paxman allows 'different to' - but I have been quite prescriptive with my own children. When you correct someone for their grammar you lay yourself wide open to attack.

(I wrote more and checked it several times - and then it disappeared off the screen! O tempora, o computers!

Don't mess about - use Tuffsaw blades. I email, the chap sends me a PayPal invoice and the blade arrives very promptly. I have no connection etc etc.

I have a tangential tool holder from Eccentric. Wouldn’t be without it.

Plusgas saved me again today. Locked ladders stored outside, lock seized. I already had my angle grinder in my hand but gave it one more jiggle with the key and it released. I’ve had the same tin for 25+ years. It may help you. Leo

Thread: A polite note to beginners from ARC
21/05/2020 11:22:56

I have always had complete satisfaction from Arc and have found Ketan and his company very helpful. Their products are of a very good standard and I will order from them in preference to any other firm . Although there are of course other reputable suppliers, Arc seem to go the extra mile. Leo

Ketan at Arc is always very helpful and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, his name is ‘Megan’ according to predictive spelling.

Thread: Oil

I just use random engine oil in my ML7 QC gearbox. I got fed up with the old oilers, which never seemed very efficient, and use the Arceurotrade one-shot oiling system. I like it!
