Thread: Knurling Question
19/03/2023 09:48:18

Hi Ian,

You could try individual tangential knurls separated by a grooving/parting/vee tool.

Good luck.

Hi Justin,

Depending the size of sphere, have a look at Joe Pie making canon balls for his model on You Tube.

Thread: Keyless Drill Chuck
15/03/2023 12:10:21

Having failed to source an MT3/JTS Arbor for the Rotagrip Vertex 1 - 10mm KDC, I'm now looking at their "Porta" variants.

They offer the Porta 0 - 10mm KDC's with either B12 or B16 mounting. Although both are the same capacity, why the two different sizes?

Cost isn't the issue, but what do I gain with the B16, which is a larger chuck, but the same capacity?

14/03/2023 09:28:33

I agree with Vic on that thread. Why make a chuck with a JTS taper that you can't find an arbor for?

If there's source out there for a No.3 MT (M12) JTS arbor, please let me know. I haven't found one yet. Rotagrip don't have one.

13/03/2023 16:28:42

I'm about to purchase a Vertex 10mm KDC from Rotagrip. It has a J2S taper. Over a J2 taper, will the shorter taper (0.125" be detrimental? Please excuse the maybe silly question, it's the learning curve.

Nothing wrong with being picky when it comes to splashing the cash.

Ketan must have a good relationship with suppliers, as the ARC keyless drill chucks are similar in price to RDG, Chronos and Warco.

Hi ndiy,

Have you had problems with RDG and Chronos then?

Thread: Strange Set of Craft Tools?
12/03/2023 15:15:28

Not a clue!

Judging by the number of pieces, I suspect it may be components from more than one craft.

For a moulding set, I would expect to see more moulds. Although they could have been lost over time. What look like diagonal holes in the moulds, look a bit strange.

Like MJ1, the only things that look familiar, are what appear to be fillet smoothers.

Thread: Ballistol
12/03/2023 10:03:42

Ballistol seem to make lots of grandiose claims to be "universal" . I've not come across others making such claims. Used it for years with my Airguns with no problems. The strange smell can be an acquired taste.

Thank you GC,

I want a 10mm KDC with No.3 MT (M12) for my mill.

11/03/2023 10:55:52

Good morning,

I went to buy a 10mm Keyless Drill Chuck from ArcEuro, but they are out of stock for some while. Can anyone recommend an alternative supplier of good quality, reasonably priced, KDC's?

Thread: Jeweller's Rouge

Useful stuff. Used it to remove glue residue from new double glazing units, that no solvent I had, or the installer had, would touch. I wondered, if something in the adhesive on the stickers had eaten into the glass.?

Thread: New dehumidifier required.
27/02/2023 10:20:14

Hi All,

Many thanks for your thoughts. Time to spend some lolly.

26/02/2023 11:44:32

Thank you norm,

As I understand it, desiccant dehumidifiers work at lower ambient temperatures (as low as 1deg. C). Ideal in my unheated garage during the winter, when most of the moisture problems manifest themselves, so I've dismissed the refrigerant type.,

26/02/2023 10:10:16

Good morning All,

My "ProBreeze PB-10" desiccant dehumidifier has finally given up the ghost. It has provided several years of reliable service in my unheated double garage workshop. I only noticed something was amiss when light rust started to appear where I'd not seen it before.

Any suggestions please, before I trawl the internet and some dubious performance claims?

The PB-10 doesn't appear to be available anymore and I'm considering the "EcoAir DD128". The Dehumidifier needs to be the desiccant variety (low ambient temp), have continuous drain and preferably a front removable reservoir.

Thread: A poor early Christmas present.

I'm not surprised that "after market" Dickson type tool holders can be a bit of a gamble. Four things need to be made to to a "standard" with close tolerances. Namely, the tool post, the tool holder, the top hat clamp and the cam. I guess over time, some of the tolerances have been slackened off for reasons of economy. As gets said many times, "you get what you pay for". I naively thought that buying so called "T51" holders would be OK, but I'm afraid not.

I call them something rather different when I'm trying to remove them...

Trying to unscrew them with vice grips never seems to work. Can't get a good grip on the rounded head. So it's down to prying them out and that always mashes up the aluminum or brass plate and looks awful when you put it back.

There has to be a better way but I can't think of one. Anyone got any better ideas?

How about a small "Dremel" cutting disc to cut a slot in the domed head for a screwdriver? A small washer around the head might help protect the ID plate. Just a thought.

Thread: Cleaning cooker hood parts
14/10/2022 17:29:22

Phew Martin!, I thought for a minute you use beer to clean your cooker hood.

14/10/2022 15:53:55

Hello Gerry,

I've always used methylated spirits to good effect on that awful sticky mess that accumulates in cooker hoods.
