Thread: Indexer?
31/10/2020 14:18:24

I have dismantled and cleaned everything, and posted some more pics in the album which perhaps better shows how things fit together. Undoing the clamp at the rear allows the shaft and chuck to come out, the chuck is attached to the head by three bolts. There is what appears to be a short sleeve inside the bore held in with a split pin which when removed doesn't allow any movement of the sleeve, it may be a very tight fit perhaps. But the internals and condition appear ok and so I'm happy with it.

I'll have a look tomorrow, and get me hammer ready.

I've been 'given' one of these (£10), it has a Burnerd chuck attached to it. All seem in good condition, I haven't had time for a real good look at it but wondering how to remove the chuck, supposing it can come off?indexer.jpg

Thread: Brass Plate etc
08/09/2020 17:08:47

I've got a large selection of brass and what I think is bronze to sell off for a deceased friend. Some of it is too heavy to post so will need collecting. I'm not too sure of what should be asked for them, but pls respect sensible offers. I will put a post up in the classifieds but I have attached a picture of what I think is the largest and heaviest piece. I haven't weighed it but it's heavy.

13" x 11" x 1/2" brass plate. It has had a 41/2" x 3" piece cut out of it.

There is also a 15 3/4" x 7" 16g as a whole piece.

Thread: Benchmaster Senior Donkey Saw
09/07/2020 10:45:43

Thankyou to all the replies. I first used a donkey saw at school back in the late 60's and finally having the room for a proper mancave slowly filling it with stuff. I've had an ML10 for the last 30yrs, I recently bought a Centec 2A mill and finally got my donkey saw. Currently it's in bits awaiting arrival of some degreaser and a paint job. I find such equipment quite therapeutic. I would love a shaper, used one at school and have been fascinated by them ever since.

power saw.jpgI've just bought a rather sad looking Benchmaster Senior Donkey Saw for what I think is a quite reasonable price. It all works, but is in need of some TLC as it's a bit tired after years of use. It's not too big 600 x 200 but still needs two people to lift it.

The odd thing is tho, that I can't find anything on the web about the makers or the saw itself.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to its origin. Certainly UK made, but that's about as far as I've got.

Thread: Centec Myford Rodney
11/03/2020 21:07:32

I have received an email from someone about the Rodney, but can't see how to reply to him just says alerts@etcetc.

What do I need to do?

11/03/2020 12:15:46

I'm selling the Rodney but can't see where to list it?

16/02/2020 14:34:32

I have a Myford Rodney milling thing which has been tried, but never really used in the last 25yrs. It's spent its life in a corner gathering dust and generally in the way.
I now have a Centec 2A without the vertical head and have been considering the feasibility of converting the Rodney to fit the Centec. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it or has any thoughts on doing it. Given the Rodney is belt drive and the Centec has the spare drive for the mill should make things a little easier.

Or I suppose I can always sell the Rodney and see what I get for it.

Thread: Cenetc 2A Horizontal Arbor
24/01/2020 22:32:27

I've dismantled the beast including the knee off, I've fitted an emergency stop button to the stand for peace of mind. One thing I can't budge is the arbor, drawbar is loose and it sits on a 2MT but a few whacks with a lead hammer doesn't do anything and I don't want to hit any harder. The MT2 on the lathe is a quick tap and it falls out.

Any ideas well received.

I've put a pic of the slides on the knee as I believe it shows that they were scraped when built, which the book of words said happened.

Thread: Centec 2a Gear Box Oil

Thought this might be of interest. 2A internals.

Having re read the manual I now have. It does refer to spindle drive and gear box. ‘shafts in the gearbox are well supported by ball bearings’. No mention of bronze anywhere.

20/01/2020 21:15:28

Hi, I've seen the odd thread on this subject relating to CY2 oil but I have come across another 2A document which says use vitrea 41. I am assuming one is a later edition and the vitrea 41 is the choice.

There is a site https://www.alexoil.co.uk/content/7-shell-pre-iso-iso-lubron-oil-reference-guide which gives you a Lubron equivalent to v41 as Lumach 100 available in 1lt and upwards.

Reckon 2lts will suffice.

Thread: Cenetc 2A Horizontal Arbor Mill
19/01/2020 22:33:37

Not changed it yet, but not used it either. Just run it up to check switches and gears etc. It appears to have a soft start on hi speed gears taking several seconds to reach full speed.

Thread: Centec 2a

Unfortunately no vertical head, did come with loads of horizontal cutters and slitting saws and a few other bits so quite happy.

Also, the thread on the arbor is LH. Someone had done it up a bit tight.

That's good news. Thanks for the help!

19/01/2020 16:52:28

Having recently bought and now checked over the 2A, I see that the arbor is completely plain; as in there is no milled slot to take any form of locking key to stop the cutters from turning on the arbor. Is the Centec unusual in this area or do I need to get a slot milled into it. The arbor looks original, left hand thread to undo, 2MT on the taper, just no slot in it?

I couldn't check before as the machine was set up and had a cutter in place which rotated etc, so I took it for granted that it was all there.

Thread: Centec 2a
19/01/2020 14:42:07

Having just bought the above and with a few hours available today, I thought I'd have a good look over it. It came with some C spanners I assume for undoing the arbor. However, is it a LHT or a RHT to undo the locking nut? There are no instructions/manual?
