Hi Jake I think Andy and Howard have provided all of the answers that you were looking for any instruction booklet will be a collectors item Can you lock your cross slide with a centre screw in the back gib. I think you will need to find someone who can make you a faceplate for any 4 Jaw chuck you get I have 4 inch 4 jaw chuck that fits my lathe comlplete with backplate I also have a 6 inch that fits my faceplate this i have never used to date Regards Brian |

Hi Andy The cross and compound slide are both 3/8 whitworth and each seem to provide a movement of 60 thou when rotated a full turn. egards Brian |

A surprise find 2 red dots on my bull wheel then revealed the 60 teeth gear wheel had 4 cut marked on it at 15 teeth intervals not bad had not seen this before have only owned lathe for over 40 yrs , My guess the previous owner had done this as both the cross slide and compound slide hand wheels are graduated from 1 to 60 thou most photos i have seen of this lathe does not show any graduations. Any more Faircut Owners may be worth a look . Regards To all Brian |

I take it this was working o/k and now only busses and will not start almost definitely the centrifugal switch which is built inside the motor you will have to remove the end cover on the motor get acces to the switch which may be brocken or stuck a common fault ( Capacitor less likely) Investigate further Good Luck Brian |

Hi Jake Puzzled by your question backlash , Have you got cross slide movement if you try pushing or pulling the cross slide by hand if so this may be some wear in the lead screw nut or both , or is there movement if you try to twist the cross by hand on the lathe bed which may be some loos ness or wear or can this be tighten with the gib screws on your your cross slide . PS ( Always a problem trying to explain or diagnose a problem when you cant see it ) Good Luck Brian |

Have just read about your problems. The fact that you can hold the contactor in and your motor runs definatley sounds like the coil is faulty Good luck Brian Morehen |

Tom Unless my mind is playing tricks due to my age . A three phase motor that requires a a star delta starter is not a two speed motor as such . I have had 2 speed motors rewound that have been controlled by a timer with a low speed that stops and then switches to high speed , A star delta motor uses star to start and you then switch to run most of these type motors where 25 HP and above what are the details on the motor plate. Tom This souds likeca bit of a puzle , You do not want to reverse your motor only change speeds from low speed to high speed , I think we may need 2 contactors one for high speed and one for low speed a 2 position switch can operate one or the other contactor I feel we need more info to get this right My Lathe has a single phase motor wthe a lever attached that when moved changes rotation . I feel more details of your motor are required. Brian |

HiTom, Glad you have found a answer to your questions there are a number of ways and controls that will work for you your Sparky no doubt nows a few Back of my mind seems to remember that the Darlander Motor Worked on a 2 Phase Supply and that 3 phase will run if a phase is lost but wth problems. Best Regards and good luck Brian |

Tom Your motor Data plate shows 3 Phase and voltages for 3 phase , I think you will have to ask your Electrician without being able to check this motor and test , there are a few questions that raise alarm as a three phase motor that starts to run on 2 phases sounds incorrect . Once you run this motor all questions will be answered amperage loadings will all be the same for each phase and may change depending on the speed that you a running the motor free from any load .

Hi Tom , I guess your motor has 6 Terminals for connections 3 for low speed and 3 for high speed Your Motor has 2 sets of windings One for Low , and one for high speed , You will need a three phase control panel that allows a complete disconnection of supply from low speed that allows the motor to stop , Before you switch to high speed ... Your Electrician will be able to sort this out for you.. A 3 phase changeover switch may work I position for low speed and the other for high speed . Dont Switch from one to the other before the motor stops Good Luck Brian

Hi Jake Like the Golf Ball Handle Your Lathe cutting tool has a sharp point that is giving you the cut that is also giving you the appearance of a thread when you have made a cut. Try and grind a small flat onto that point and take things very slowly on a scarp piece of bar and see if this gives you a smooth shiny cut Good luck Brian |

Hi Andy The black handled knob is for revesing the motor first switch of and then lift lever up sitch on motor reversed. The vice on the compound slide was made to the compound slide size and is held in place with 3 Allen Screws on each side that have had holes bored into the slide works great. Best Regards to both of you |

Andrew The live feed tto start winding is removed when the centrifugal switch changes to run winding . I have had this problem with Commercial Tumbler Dryers overheating because the surrounding temperature was to high causeing the motor to overheat and then trip out and also Comercial Fridge Motor Overheating because they were to hot .If your motor has not been rewound then the trip is in the correct place? If your trip operates the motor must stop Rather Like switching your main switch of or removeing the fuse it stops. Further Investigation is required . Good Luck look forward to the answer Bee M |
