Thread: Myford super 7 lathe tripping consumer rcd |
02/01/2021 17:42:34 |
From the way i am reading your problem the RCD is in your house . What else have you got on the same circuit in your workshop that is using energy .The starting load that your lathe requires may just be enough to overload the RCD and cause it to trip, worth checking or just switch everything else of in your workshop and then try starting your lathe What size is the RCD that trips ? Or are you getting and voltage drop due to the extra load. some RCD have been increased a small amount in size IE 15amp to 16amp. Regards Bee.M

Thread: What air compressor should I buy? |
31/12/2020 18:21:21 |
.Most compressors over 25 Lt Air storage capacity are like Steam Boilers they require Insurance Cover and a yearly inspection together with a certificate that is valid for a further year. Always assuming that you get it insured .... I had this problem for many years because it is classed as a pressure vessel. like steam boilers and stills.. Worth checking if the law has changed. Its at least 10 yrs since Ii striped any thing for inspection Now retired regards. Bee.M |

A jubilee clip on the pipe will give you a guide for your hacksaw for nearly the whole cut then remove the clip for the last bit you need to cut and take your time good luck.

Hi Jake. I was probably lucky with my backplate for my lathe .Having rewired a machine as stated this was a favor in return. Do you not know any one near you who can help. Any machine workshops near you often found local ones only to willing to help if you were in trouble when working away from home with a breakdown. Regards Brian |

Hi Tom Are the following linked together A1 B! C! if so you may have a dual voltage motor , Is there anyone in your area who does motor repairs ? I feel if you take this motor into ther works they will be able sort this out quite easily. Regards Brian |
16/09/2020 18:01:51 |
Hi Tom A three phase motor has 3 leads , connect each of your phases one to each lead and your motor will run if this runs o/k it may be running either slow or fast , which ever it is this will tell you which speed it is running at. If the direction is wrong change over two of your incoming leads to reverse rotation. al O/k St test complete disconnect your incoming supply and then reconnect to the other 3 leads your motor will either run fast or slow 2 test complete., Your Motor has two sets of windings one for slow and one for fast . Hope this makes sence if not please come back regards Brian |

Hi Tom. Once again so many ways this can be done , Wish I had Toms Motor on a bench with a few contactor;s so difficult to find the easiest way when you are not there the obvious and easiest is always the last idea that works A simple change over switch and 1 Relay for Slow and 1 for Fast.. Good luck looks like the answer is with you Brian |

Hi Jake I bought a 4 inch 3 Jaw Myford chuck which had a myford thread all ready cut into the chuck .I had a friend who then got a ex work colleague to make make a backplate to suit my lathe after providing all measurements to fit my lathe this came with the thread cut to fit my lathe , the faceplate then had to be machined on its face for accuracy and the small piece in the faceplate centre machined to fit into my chuck register up to the thread that was inside the chuck all to get a perfect fit . All has been fine A 6 inch 4 jaw chuck is really a matter of choice and price I have had mine over 40 yrs and never used it or fitted it to the faceplate . Slow work getting a perfectly smooth finish looks like you are learning don't be in such a hurry. Regards Brian |
