Just supposing, I was to show an interest in a printer, not that I do at the moment! which would you recommend? David The Creality Ender something (whatever number they are now up to) is probably the most popular at the cheap end of the market. I would recommend the Sovol SVO1 - but only because that is the one I bought (after very careful consideration, mind). My recommendation is already well out of date, as these things move on at a pace, and may not be suitable for what you would need.
Thank you NDIY David |

Rivet or loctite a plug into the casting and remachine perhaps? Or my all time favourite if it's a small defect, drill and tap a suitable size, add a grubscrew and stamp OIL underneath. regards Martin Brilliant David |

Quite agree. My wife and I dance a lot and I have found it takes more effort these days to maintain flexibility especially in Tango where there is a lot of twisting or, in dance terminology, contra-body movement David |

As a very new clock maker, I would recommend 'Wheel and Pinion Cutting in Horology' by J. Malcolm Wild. He explains very clearly how to make the cutters. I have found it hugely helpful. David |

That is only the second publication I have ever seen of the punctuation puzzle offered by Pgk Pgk. The first, and slightly different, is in the Puzzles chapter of my treasured copy of The Junior Weekend Book, a present to me when I was about 6! Over half a century and a decade ago..... That book by the way, if not complete detours, is an eye-opener. It contains instructions for making a basic ridge tent. Fair enough. And then a simple scow - then not content with that, a more boat-shaped rowing-dinghy (i.e. with a sharp end). No nonsense about asking your Dad to saw the wood for you - it implies just getting on and cutting it. Perhaps Dad was assumed to be busy on his Drummond lathe, or planting spuds. Then off to the local water with the un-plimmed craft and no life-jackets, for your Swallows & Amazons adventures. And when you return home, turn to the sweet-making chapter and make some toffee, now that sugar has come off-ration ( mid-1950s). No nonsense about asking your Mum to boil the molten sugar and butter for you... How did my generation survive? I realise that I'm off topic here but the above post reminded me of a book which I have. In my previous life, I performed as a magician and collected some old magic books. One of which is 'The Boy's Book of Conjuring' It describes how to make a bowl of fire appear. Are you ready? Solder a flat plate over half a metal bowl to form a pocket. Half fill this with petrol and slip it into the waistband of your trousers. When you are ready to produce the fire, take out the bowl and drop a small pellet of sodium into it. David

Thanks NDIY, all I can think, is that I must have inadvertantly nudged the reverse switch which is next to the stop button. I did check and it's still on 'Forward' but I suppose I could have given it a nudge. (Shrugs shoulders) I'll put it down to the gremlins. David

Here's a bit of an odd problem, for me anyway! I had just finished a facing cut on my lathe and pressed the stop button. There was a loud bang and this is what I found. Now, there was no load on the motor at the time and it snapped just when I pressed the stop button. Any ideas gratefully received before I replace it. |

Thanks Ian. I will try the meths and fire, it sounds like something a wizard might do! Thanks John. If the meths does not work I will get some oxalic acid and try that. Rod

pgk I know this is glaringly obvious but it hadn't dawned on me before. It explains a lot! David So if the population is 3 and they have IQ's of 50 100 and 120 the average is 270/3 = 90 which means in this case only 30% of the population is below average IQ. Maybe it's not so glaringly obvious after all. regards Martin
