Eudora allows redirection as distinct from forwarding. I have never found any other email client software that allows redirection.

I am still using Eudora on my Apple Mac I have NOT found any other email client that has the same features and allows searching as quickly. If Eudora stops working, I'll revert to Royal Mail Letterpost MCB |

Night classes are a dying breed. Our local collage got rid of its engineering classes years ago. The space is now a trainee hair salon. There's an evening class "Basic Skills in Engineering" at College of North East London at Enfield. The workshop is equipped with lathes, milling machines, pillar drills as well as hand tools. There is plenty of space in the workshop for more students and on-site parking. If anybody is interested, please send me a message off-list so I can ring. MCB |

Please kindly tell us where you bought the set (if you can remember!). The set seems to be a useful thing to have "just in case"....

For these reasons I also tried Arc's rust remover product which I imagine works in a similar way to 'evaporust'. It was totally hopeless. If you just let the parts soak in it for 24 hours nothing at all happened. If one followed the instructions and repeatedly scrubbed the part during the soak, one would eventually remove the rust Gerry Arc sell Restore I used restore on lot of tools that were rusted solid. I diluted the concentrate the recommended amount and used it in a heated ultrasonic bath. The results were the opposite of Mr. Maddens! One of the things was a radius gauge set - after some time in the bath, the individual leaves can move separately. I don't know what components are in Restore - and guess that Shield Technology will NOT be keen to divulge that information! But the SDS may provide a clue! MC

I have on order some Oxalic acid which they say is good for rust I will try it. Thinking back to the days when I taught Chemistry, I recall that Oxalic Acid is Poisonous. I advise caution. . |

I have had excellent results using Shield Technology's RESTORE. I put it in a heated Ultrasonic Bath to sped up the process MC

I was delighted to take early retirement since I now have time to enjoy my other interests - but computers are NOT part of them. I sent you my email address OFF-LIST this p.m. My very best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful, Successful, Prosperous, Stress- and Covid-free New Year. MC (For the avoidance of doubt, my first name is “MC”, [not "Mc"]) |

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, it seems that whatever is used requires a newer computer than I have. My Apple Macintosh computer runs OS 10.6.8. I am using the most recent versions of browsers that will run on my Operating System. I can't install a newer Operating System on the computer. If anybody is interested, my computer was part of my retirement package from the university and I can NOT afford (on my pitifully inadequate pension - reduced because I had to retire early due to ill health) to replace the computer and all the software that I currently use. If the Index is in Excel, is it possible for you just to email me the file as an attachment, please? My very best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful, Successful, Prosperous, Stress- and Covid-free New Year. MC Black (Dr.)

If you are interested in Peatol, you may care to Subscribe to the TAIG list on Groups.io I am VERY happy with my Taig/Peatol lathe which I bought second-hand and renovated. SPG Tools delivered my SP9512-B Mill to my shed rather than leaving it by the kerb. I am very happy with that too. |
Thread: Slowing lathe RPM |

If the step was only for a 40mm dia disc then don't worry about the speed 400rpm will be no problem. Thin penny washer was not teh best thing to use, something a bit thicker would be best. There is no real need to wast that much jaw depth for one job, 1 to 1.5mm depth would have been more than adequate as a "disc" assumes your steel is reasonably thin so little overhang. Just take light cuts off the steel As for pictures you have already got one in an album so add some more and then when you get to where you want the picture in teh post click the little camera icon along the top of the box you are typing in, select album and then image and click insert Edited By JasonB on 12/01/2022 13:40:12 The M8 Penny Washer was all that was available at the time The disc was around 20mm thick I was NOT aware that I had an Album. Can anybody tell me exactly how to find the album so I can apply the advice about clicking the camera icon And how to put photographs in the Album so they can be subsequently selected. Very many thanks MC Black (Dr.)

I was trying to cut a step in the Soft Jaws of my Taig lathe so I could cut a chamfer on the outside edge of a approximately 40mm disc. It already had a co-axial hole through the centre. I closed the soft jaws around a M8 Penny Washer and (eventually) used a Boring Bar to cut the step from the inside. The vibration due to the intermittent cut (I surmise) loosened the jaws. I was only able to cut a step around 3mm deep but I would like it to be about a third of the height of the jaws. Every web-site to which I refer suggests different Surface Feet/min speeds or so confuses me that it makes no sense at all. I realise now that I was wrong to ask for speeds at present. What I should have requested was a RANGE of speeds for the different materials. I have already written the spreadsheet to convert Surface Feet//min to RPM If anybody is able to explain if there's a EASY way to include photographs in messages on this Forum, I'll do so. With best wishes and thanks again. MC Black (Dr.)

I have never previously noticed these for sale as spares: **LINK** https://www.soigeneris.com/blank-soft-jaw-set-3-jaw-1051 Seems very reasonable [U.S.A.] pricing. MichaelG. The UK price for a set of jaws is £23.00 including postage The Taig Toolpost is $5.10 but £25.00 (including postage) in the UK. I suppose reasonableness depends on one's income! MC

Looking Taig's website, their step pulley sets are less expensive than I imagined. If these are available from Peatol, ... Peatol does sell Taig parts but his prices take account of all sorts of on-costs (carriage US to UK; exchange rates, duty, V. A. T., profit) and are substantially more expensive. With best wishes and thanks MC

The range of speeds shouldn't be a problem when turning any diameter of aluminium alloy within the capacity of the lathe. Rather than change the lathe drive system I'd change the "expert". Andrew Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am using a table based on the following cutting speeds: Cast Iron - 20 surface feet per minute Stainless Steel - 40 sf/m Mild Steel - 65 sf/Mother Brass - 117 sf/m Aluminium - 600 sf/m Would anybody care to suggest what values I should be using. I did some research on the www and in Machinery's Handbook and there's a singular lack of agreement. With best wishes and thanks again. MC |

Very many thanks for your prompt, helpful and courteous responses. It's a Taig Lathe (marketed as Peatol in the United Kingdom) I attempted to Paste an image with a table of the speeds and a sketch of the set-up but the site tells me my message is too large! I don't know how to include a photograph in a message but a similar arrangement is shown on http://cartertools.blogspot.com/2012/03/10-minute-taig-motor-mount.html I was trying to cut a step in Soft Jaws so that I could mount a steel disk that was too large for the jaws of the 3 jaw chuck as supplied. With best wishes and thanks again. MC

I have a small lathe which is powered by a 1400 rpm electric motor and, using a belt between two sets of pulleys can vary the speed between between 435 rpm and 4415 rpm in six steps. A more expert chap has suggested that I need to machine Aluminium at slower speeds. I know nothing about electricity - connecting a plug to the end of a cable is the limit.of my expertise. Is there a "Plug & Play" solution? Can one purchase a ready made unit into which I can plug the lathe which has a dial (preferably calibrated) to vary the speed? With best wishes and thanks MC

Edited By John Rudd on 09/01/2022 18:21:16 That's an amazing piece of detective work - worthy of Sherlock Holmes himself !! Thank you I have a SP9512-B Mill; that's NOT listed on the Sumore web-site but their SP2240 looks identical (as far as I can see). I have noted the URL for the future - but that won't be particularly useful if they don't have another UK distributor With best wishes and thanks again. MC |

I have written to SPG and will see if anybody replies. Although I am a pensioner, I am a member of a number of Clubs and Societies and am avoiding those where attendance would involve travelling on public transport (specifically Tube and 'bus). I accept Mr. Duffer's suggestion - waiting will NOT do any hard! I looked at my Mill a few minutes ago and could not see any clue as to the manufacturer. I expect that the same model is sold by other companies with different labels. With best wishes and thanks again. MC
