Thread: Accessing Digital Archive |
10/04/2021 01:45:35 |
Hi All, Does anyone know how to open magazines in the digital archive now that Adobe has finally dragged Flash Player. When I select an issue I get the message saying I need to update my version of Flash Player, When I press "Get Flash Player" nothing happens - I guess because Flash Player is no longer available. I know the ME/MEW team is working on the problem but does anyone know of a workaround in the meantime. Joe Harland, Melbourne, Australia |
Thread: Ian Bradley's Drill grinding jig |

Many Thanks: Paul: the link was not quite what I'm looking for but did have lots of interesting content and links - Thanks Paul. ega has the originals and will email them through in due course - fantastic thanks ega. Trojan sent a link to dropbox where there was another copy of the originals so thanks Trojan. My drawings are in 1:1 scale on a single A0 sheet; it may be a while (have to paint the house first on pain of death) but when I am finished I will endeavor to pass them on to a good home. Hi All, I have a set of drawings for Ian Bradley's Twist Drill Grinding Jig that I purchased from Nexus Plans service some years ago. I have now (finally) decided to make the item and am having a few difficulties interpreting the drawings. The odd missing dimension is one issue but the main problem is trying to see how the various components fit together, in particular how to ensure correct positioning of the keyways in the table and the drill slide. So: does anyone have copies of the original articles from Model Engineer that they would be happy to pass on (in PDF, Jpeg, photocopies or what have you). It seems the original series was titled "Making a Twist Drill Grinding Jig by Duplex" and ran in Model Engineer in 1951 issues:2632, 2634, 2636, 2638, and 2640. Here's Hoping, Joe Harland, Melbourne, Australia |

Hi All, I'm in the middle of making a copy of Tubal Cain's POLLY. Do I need to remove the remnants of silver brazing flux from inside the boiler and if so - how? Joe Harland |

Thanks Peter, I use the the Archive on the ME/MEW website. I haven't worked out how to use the Pocket Mags site yet - do the printed pages come out in better resolution from there? Regards; Joe |

Hi All, I am into my second digital only subscriptions of ME and MEW after taking the printed magazines for many years. Although not as good as printed copies the digital magazines are convenient from the point of view of storage and unreliability of the post between UK and Australia. My problem is that the new format of the online versions is harder to read than the previous and that there is no option to print individual pages and articles. When I try right click and print (in Windows 10) only part of a given page is printed. Is anyone else experiencing these problems and has anyone found a work round? Joe Harland Melbourne Australia |
Thread: Help needed making Harold Hall's Grinding Rest |

Re Help with Harold Hall's Grinding Rest: Paul, David, Jon and Pete, Thanks men I now have the confidence to continue. Joe Harland |

Hi All, I have started making Harold Hall's grinding rest described in "Milling A Complete Course". I am about to start on the "Lower Slide 4" and envisage a problem drilling the two 5.2mm holes (hole A on the diagram) and getting them to meet in proper alignment - marking out and starting will have to be spot on. I thought of drilling through from one end before milling the 12mm slot but 70 mm is a long way for a 5.2mm drill to go without wandering a bit as well. I have a 6" lathe and a mill-drill (both Chinese) and a good quality locally made drilling machine. Maybe I worry too much; Any Suggestions? Joe Harland Melbourne, Australia

Hi, I have just bought digital subscriptions to ME and MEW. I can access past issues of both magazines but can't see how to search these archives. For example I tried entering "Using Coventry Dieheads" into the box that says "Search This Site" in the green bar at the top of the home page. The result was that there was nothing matching this exact phrase. I also tried the box lower down the page but got no direct reference to "Using Coventry Dieheads" which is a current series of articles. Can You Help? Joe Harland.
