"The Truth".... The statistics flow back and forth, sometimes towards fossil fuels, sometimes towards renewables. Luckily for the sake of my kids the trend is going more towards renewable sources. It's a damn sight easier to be a cynic than open minded. |

I think 272 has the highest rating. I've never tried it, but I have used Permabond HM162 with great results. It's more of an adhesive than a Threadlock though. |

To me that does look like a loctite job. |

Personally I think for that gauge a mechanical pump would be best. |

I've used TENS for phantom limb pain and once when one pad was slightly dry it did leave a small burn. |
Thread: Clutch pedal servo |

I assisted in converting an old motability car to a rally car a few years ago; it was largely unmodified from stock for the gentlemans disability other than an inline servo in the clutch line. It was a Mk2 escort. |
Thread: Is there a club in the southwest that’s not a Labour camp |

WWSME has a very broad range of interests, steam is just one part of it. Don't judge every club by the experiences here please people, we are very friendly! |

No-one is obliged to do public running at our SW of England MES. In fact I think its fought over a bit as we don't really do much public running, less than ten events a year I reckon. It's just a nice quiet place for us to run our locos with our families while chatting with the other members. WWSME, West Wiltshire Society of Model Engineers. They are laying more track at the moment but no-one is obliged to help, most just assist as part of the give and take that comes with a club. If you are interested we are based just north of Westbury in Wiltshire. If it's of interest I can ping you some details. |

Unless you really enjoy clocking things in the chuck try and organise the workflow so you can do as many operations at once without removing it from the chuck.... you'll never get it as true again as it is after you've first machined it.... Edited By Jon Lawes on 23/07/2022 20:43:12 |
Thread: Help! What is going on? |

Between my friends and I we have had quite a few chilled castings from Stuart. They have always been happy to replace, but at the moment they are very slow to respond, don't tell you when a casting is delayed (always blaming the foundry) and generally I avoid dealing with them. |
Thread: WD40 alternative - any good? |
21/07/2022 20:19:50 |
Posted by old mart on 21/07/2022 20:18:32:
The Royal Navy used WD40 to spray inside helicopter gas turbines as they spooled down after the wash with drinking water, but sometime in the 80's it was changed to a cheaper alternative. Not really cheaper, specific compwash fluids started to be used. |

Jon, I served in the Air Force from 64 till 86 and during that time I remember using from barrels clearly marked WD 40, my understanding was that the formula was first used in the 50’s on the Thor rockets which were located outside in all weathers and the WD40 was for protecting it from the effects of weather, I think I remember it was originally called Rocket WD 40 but the “Rocket” was dropped. There was of course the full range of PX’s in the Services used for protection, one that springs to mind was PX 3, if I remember rightly, and that was used on wire rope slings and made them really mucky to handle and was a red colour. Probably find that all the old formulations used were found to be carcinogenic, so many products that I came into contact with during my service turned out that way. Dave W Fair enough, it was gone by the late 90s. |

The Armed Services use WD40 and purchase it in 50 gallon drums, one use is on helicopters which are literally drenched in it I presume to ward off moisture particularly sea water and inhibit corrosion. It must have proved it’s worth for the Armed Services to purchase so much. Dave W Not that I'm aware off, they have different lubricants and protectives depending on the role. For example I think one called PX24 is used for coating metalwork that is exposed to seawater spray (well, its used for far more than just that, but that is a well known use for it).

Thread: British Homes Have Air Conditioning ? |
20/07/2022 13:41:22 |
I used to have air conditioning (bought by my parents when my ex-wife was pregnant with my son during a very humid hot period) but since installing ceiling fans I've not needed it. A friend of mine laughed at them, claiming I was living in the 1970s. You stay in your "up-to-date" house mate, I'll stay in my comfortable one. |
