Thread: Warco WM 18 vs GH 18 for CNC conversion
16/02/2021 01:16:20

Have you seen this: **LINK** ? MM32L Milling Machine Base From cnc4you.

Looks similar to this from Amadeal : **LINK** but with the mechanical parts of the CNC conversion already done.

They both look similar to the WM18B.

Thread: WM16B measurement needed
12/02/2021 19:02:40

I have my Warco WM16 on a wooden bench 550mm deep. The chip tray is 50mm from the wall and is 480mm deep. This is about as close as you can put it to the wall so that you can turn the column handle without your knuckles hitting the wall. The y axis handle protrudes about 100mm in front of the chip tray. The mill x axis table is 700mm wide and 930mm wide across the x axis handles plus you need extra space each side for the x axis travel. (About 200mm each side).

Hope this info is useful.

Thread: Plans for updating the archaic forum?
11/02/2021 20:19:53

Yes I suppose so.

I was thinking of how I use it as someone who doesn’t do those things frequently.

11/02/2021 20:08:36

As far I am concerned, leave this Forum as it is.

The model flying site is terrible. Loads of screen space taken up by irrelevant info and minimal space for the useful bits (ie the text of people’s posts). Large size fonts and logos for posters identities - why?

As far as keeping logged on is concerned, you don’t need to be logged on unless you want to make a post.

I agree with Steve. It could be that you only have 2 phases to the lathe now. Possibly a fuse or circuit breaker operated when the milling machine was switched on. If you are not experienced in fault finding with 3 phase, I would suggest you get an electrician to check it out for you. (Someone with industrial experience)

The vaccine priority is about first protecting those most likely to get seriously ill or die.

See ‘UK COVID19 vaccines delivery plan’:

My chuck uses threaded studs and nuts, not bolts. (The threaded holes in the chuck don’t go through.).

Is the one you have bought like that?

Thread: Aldi Scheppach bandsaw

The one I was referring to was the portable bandsaw, not the one that Steve has done the reviews for.

The one they have for sale now is this: **LINK**

The one I bought in Nov 2019 is this: **LINK**

They look the same to me.

Thread: Back once again with the idiot questions...

I have a CJ18A mini lathe from Amadeal. I bought a 4 jaw chuck from Amadeal at the same time as the lathe.

I have measured the recess and it is 72 mm with a PCD of 84 mm. The 4 fixings are M8 tapped holes in the chuck.

There was a previous post about the a chuck for a Warco mini lathe.**LINK**

This page from Warco shows the dimensions of their chucks. It looks like the item 8044 is the same size as the Amadeal Cj18a. **LINK** but they list an item number 4902 for their mini lathe.

Probably easiest to return yours if possible and buy one to this spec with 72 mm register and 84 pcd.

Just noticed that the Sceppach portable metal bandsaw at Aldi has been reduced to £114.99.

It looks the same as the Ferrex branded one I bought for £149.99 at Aldi in 2019.

Looks like a good buy if you want a budget bandsaw.

That’s good news - do you know if the Model Engineer magazines are going to be converted as well?

Considering the complaints from some people about the Flash problem, I am surprised that nobody else has commented on this progress.

Thanks

Thread: Benchtop lathe with power cross feed, looking to buy
19/01/2021 20:27:52

I am in a similar position and I am also going to upgrade from my mini lathe. After looking at the various options I came to the conclusion that the Chester DB10VS is nearest in size to the Warco WM250v rather than the WM280v.

As you say, the DB10VS has a separate power feed and leadscrew and has a stand, but a smaller motor.

I have now decided to spend more and have ordered a WM290v - hopefully on its way from China to Warco at the moment! If you do decide on a Warco lathe, don’t do what I did. I emailed them last August to ask when they would be back in stock, but didn’t realise that I needed to order one to reserve it. When the batch arrived in November, they had all been sold before they got to Warco. So if you want one, you may have to ‘back order’ one to reserve one from the next delivery.

Thread: New Member - Looking to Upgrade from SX2P

Re Warco stock.

I am intending to buy a new Warco lathe and have been in email contact with Warco, waiting for the lathe to be back in stock. I was told they were expected to be back in stock in November. When I asked again mid-November for an update, they had just received the delivery but they had already all been sold.

When I spoke to them by phone, I realised that I should have ‘back ordered’ the lathe which I have now done. The next batch is expected late January or early February so hopefully I will be able to get one then.

If you decide on the Warco and want your mill in March, I would suggest ordering now!

Thread: Etching brass
15/01/2021 18:28:16

I have used press n peel sheet for pcbs and also brass etching. See my earlier post on 17/12/20 above.

If you want to buy from a reputable supplier, Rapid electronics stock it: **LINK**

As you can see, it isn’t cheap, but I bought a pack a few years ago and still not used it all. I cut a piece to just a bit bigger than required and tape it to an A4 piece of paper to feed through my laser printer.

You need either a laser printer or a photocopier to print onto the press n peel sheet. Before I got a laser printer I used to use a photo copier. It is the black toner that is ironed onto the brass or copper during the process. I have used sodium persulphate as an etchant recently. It is a white powder and is cleaner than the traditional ferric chloride.

Thread: Nitrogen as an Energy Store ...

.A sunny day with a half decent breeze delivers far more energy than we need

Where does that info come from? As far as I can see, installed wind capacity is 24GW and installed solar is 13.4GW. That is installed capacity, not actual output. Max Demand earlier this evening was 42GW. This website shows interesting info on the actual generation mix. If you look, a high proportion of electricity is from gas - doesn’t go below about 25% at any time.

Thread: Yet another scam lathe sale on ebay to be aware of
05/01/2021 21:07:30

I used the ‘report this item’ at the bottom of the item posting, but only had some drop down box selections to pick from. I had already noted the I’d number of the sold item that the photos were from, but there was no way to pass this to ebay.

I can only conclude that they have no interest in stopping scams.

05/01/2021 18:12:23

I also spotted this and reported it to eBay earlier today, but last time I looked it was still listed.

The photos are of a lathe sold a few weeks ago for £2000.

In the description for this listing he says he will accept £1100 !

Obviously a scam - wants someone to pay him via BACS.

Thread: Amadeal lathes - Any good??
02/01/2021 12:46:15

Martin

I have a CJ18a mini lathe from Amadeal (see my earlier post on the 1/7/20).

I did a bit of research online before I bought it on the different ones available. Being a beginner, I didn’t want to spend too much in case I decided it was not for me. At the time it was one of the cheapest and had a better spec than others (for the price).

I have been happy with it and with the service from Amadeal. If you search on this forum you will find a thread from last year from someone who wasn’t happy with the service they received when the ( larger) lathe they had had for 11 months failed. A few people who had had no dealings with Amadeal jumped in to criticise the company, which I thought was unfair.

From my first contact with them before I bought the lathe, I have always got through to them by phone and had a response by email the same day, so even though they are a small setup, I would recommend them.

One thing to bear in mind though if you are thinking of a larger lathe, they don’t include extras like additional chucks or steadies. Warco include these in the price of their larger lathes.

In my view, the Machine Mart lathes are not good value for money.

How do you report suspicious sellers to EBay?

I tried to find out how to do it, but couldn’t find the info on the EBay site.
