If you've only just bought them then raise a dispute ASAP. Excellent is a pretty strong word to use, if it said good then its going to be subjective, but excellent doesnt leave them much room. Either get refund or a discount. Its tool steel so rust will pit the surface, although if it is light you'll probably be OK if you chose to opt for discount and some evaporust. I'm pretty sure I dismantled all of mine without removing the ring off any of them. The springs come out easily enough with long nose pliers and a slim flat blade screw driver. |

Price seems to have gone up, I don't think I paid this much a year or two ago ELS-06 vial

I think they are the same as the moore wright ones. Zoro sell the vial for s lot less than you would expect (£24 or something like that!). I think vintage machinery has a recent rebuild video on youtube

Go closed loop, you'll only decide to switch at s later date and spend more in the long run. Try stepperonline, they sell on ebay as well as direct. |

Try Smith and Allan in Darlington. If they don't have it they will likely have a suitable alternative. Edited By Mark Davison 1 on 18/01/2022 21:30:01 |
Thread: Single point tool to cut an internal 5/8-10 LH ACME thread |
10/11/2021 21:10:01 |
Thanks folks. I may well try turning a 60 degree thread on the lathe and then run the acme tap through it. If it is too sloppy I may follow the suggestion of turning a new screw. Need to recut the dovetails first, certainly for the X axis, both male and female, and probably the female for the Y as well ! All good fun. Edited By Mark Davison 1 on 10/11/2021 21:11:00 |

I'm trying to source a single point threading tool (or insert) to cut an internal 5/8-10 LH ACME (it may even be stub ACME,) thread. No amount of googling is yielding anything other than size 16 carbide inserts which I think will be too big for a 5/8" thread. Any recommendations? I don't yet have the ability to grind my own HSS tools. The irony being that this is to make a new nut for the overhaul a (new to me) Clarkson grinder. RDG sell a tap but its a second and I suspect I'll need an almost finished thread before I stand any chance of being able to turn it/cut with it? I'd also like to be able to fine tune the size to match the existing screw which is no doubt worn. |

fdocumemts.net. never used it before. It tries to get you to click all sorts of adverts so look carefully before clicking anything that says download. |

Thread: Clarkson grinder - J section poly v belt |
03/11/2021 23:39:52 |
Mine has the full belt guard, ill have to make a wheel guard. I'm going to give it a go with poly V pulleys and belt. I'll try a 4 groove belt gather than the 8 I had in mind initially, but will probably buy 8 grooved pulleys. I may try and recut a crown on the original steel pulley but the alloy one on the motor is too far gone. I need to recut the slide ways for the x axis before I worry about the drive belt. |

I've just bought a MK1 Clarkson grinder. It needs quite a bit of work, part of which is replacing both crowned pulleys for the flat belt drive. I'm inclined to convert to a poly-v J secion 8 groove belt and off the shelf j section pulleys. The alternative is i make my own crowned flat belt pulleys. Any reason I should stick with the flat belt? |
Thread: Arduino CNC |

Slightly off topic but as soon as you introduce the raspberry (RPI4) liuxcnc becomes an option. You can feed stepper drivers directly from the gpio. It isn't as simple as grbl but I quickly got frustrated with grbl senders on the pi (options are very limited) and swapped to linuxcnc. Its a slippery slope as I've already progressed to Mesa boards to drive the steppers faster and allow me to feed actual position from the glass scales (not sure how that is going to pan out).

Ref nigel Graham 2's comment about 30INT tooling availability. I run BT30 in my 30INT spindle quiet happily with a draw bar. I was buying BT30 ER chucks from cutwell for £20 inc vat (now £28 for 30 size). Im not sure how much INT tapers rely on the small diameter spigot? |

Wiring is simply LNE to the VFD (stick a plug on the end and then it isn't hardwired to mains so I dont think electrical regs apply). The 3 phases plus E to the motor. Done. If the motor goes the wrong way then swap two of the 3 phases around.
What I would say is those VFDs don't obviously have controls on the front (run/stop/reverse etc). Watch as some need special programmers to change settings. If that is the case then you'll need remote switches from the get go. Try something like this (mine delivered in less than 10 days). Link deleted see CofC
*****I stand corrected, the buttons are behind the flap. Less than ideal but for the money a compromise you could live with until you wire up remote 'industrial' buttons (you'll want some before long). They have a pdf quick start guide that shows the wiring clearly. I have 2 very cheap Chinese ones. The "manual" is a single fold out sheet. No set up was required, just plugged in and off I went. If you want the correct rpm to display then you will need to change a setting and that was pretty simple. Granted they leave you with some guess work when you start wiring in remote buttons etc, but to be honest now I have those working I cant see why I struggled first time around. The instructions are clear enough. Id love to be able to justify a branded western vfd but I'd struggle for multiple machines in the home shop. When I convert the pillar drill back to 3 phase i may I may swap the lathe to a Western one to get better braking for threading up to shoulders. |

Mine is definately a K4. Does the K5 have the same tooth profile? I did have to put a brass sleeve around the spigot. |

My purchase history links to this From memory I already had one of these so knew the teeth meshed correctly before I bough this one. I bought a second one as I intended to graft it into a long T handled shaft like the original. Happy tobpost photos of the mesh later today.
