I see the Doncaster Model railway show went ahead at the racecourse two weekends ago. The organisers obviously had faith that it would be a success and no new restrictions would appear. ‘nuf said to quote LBSC!

I also remember him as The Hot Chestnut Man telling stories, a forerunner to Jackanory.

Thread: Lorch & Schmidt Tailstock
27/01/2018 17:15:00

The lathe and cross slide are marked Lorch Schmidt Germany so those parts are the genuine article, just the tailstock that intrigues me. It's too well made to be something even a skilled amateur has manufactured. Thanks for the reply

I am helping clear a deceased friends workshop and came across this Lorch & Schmidt lathe which I have lightly cleaned up. Although there are a few pieces missing it's the tailstock that intrigues me. I cannot find a makers name anywhere on it and it is very well made, for instance the indexing slots have hardened steel inserts to prevent wear. The body is well made and I think a commercial item. Can anyone help identify the tailstock? It isn't anywhere on Lathes website and a week of searching t'internet has turned up nothing,Lorch Schmidt

Well said Ketan, once again a reasoned and polite account from you.

My only 'gripe' is I miss your stand and smiling face from the Harrogate / Doncaster Show.

You have previously given the commercial reasons for your absence which are perfectly understandable.

I don't know what software is used to edit MEW but Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat NOT Reader, has a good OCR built in with the option to add and edit the Dictionary. This is very handy when editing text using technical and non mainstream words.
Out of interest what page makeup software is used to create the magazine?

On second thoughts, chocolate and flowers are far more appropriate. Not to put too fine a point on it, the individual in question is, it may surprise you to learn, one whom your present interlocutor is in the habit of defining by means of the perpendicular pronoun.

Though your last sentence may not be too well understood by those who are not familiar with Sir Humphry's turn of phrase

Nice light humour for a change from the insults being bandied about earlier in the thread.

Surprising that an editor has neither time, budget or skill to check the publication he is responsible for?
