Hi Stuart. Welcome to the forum. Try to get as much insulation into the walls and ceiling of the shed as you can. It will be a PIA to do it after yor machines are installed. Good luck with the shed build and your foray into the modellers world. regards |
Thread: Largest Engine Made By a Model Engineer? |

Chap I know is making a full size kerr Stuart Wren, but he has a lot of big machines having run a small engineering company before he retired. Is this still model engineering? Well he's also building a 7.25" sweet pea. Full size is a replica I believe not a model. Must have been one heck of a project. regards |

Sadly so many plumbers think that they are competant electricians even though they have no electrical qualifications. I know this can be said of many multi trade persons. I personally had to correct the plumber who wired in my boiler several years ago when he wired the thermostat without an earth even though the unit & box had earth tags. He used a 3 core cable when it should have been a 4 core as clearly shown in the wiring diagram. Luckily it was easy enough to fix but what if I had not spotted the error ? regards |
Thread: Privacy Glass in cars |
09/12/2022 10:54:11 |
I have no problem with the tinted glass in my or anyone elses cars. I like the added privacy and heat reduction it affords. I drive in a manner allowing me to stop in an emergency rather that run into the car in front. I can see brake lights & indicators through the rear window of the car in front even when they are tinted. As said before "you cannot see through the solid rear doors of most vans" so what is the difference ? regards |

Thread: Any Parcelforce delivery issues during strike? |
30/11/2022 17:24:31 |
I ordered an item which was supposed to be delivered by Parcelforce according to the supplier. I found it about an hour ago thrown on my doorstep with an EVRI sticker on top of the parcelforce one. Checked the cctv and the chap never rung the bell just dropped it and left. I have made several comments on my parcel delivery woes before so will not elaborate here. regards

A few imperial & metric empty drill index' to sort my drills into some kind of order. My family knows my strict rule. If it is not on my Amazon wish list I dont want it. Its great because you can add things to the list that Amazon do not stock as well. Every year we all swap lists and usually get the items we want. I say if people want to club together to get larger items it is Ok by me. regards Edited By Oldiron on 28/11/2022 11:48:39 spelling again fat fingers. Edited By Oldiron on 28/11/2022 11:49:26 |

@Anthony Knights. I have used inverters for many years at home & in industry and not one has been in an enclosure. They generate quite a lot of heat when working and this needs to be dissipated. I see no vents in your enclosure. I have 2 in my workshop mounted on the wall above & to the side of the machines they feed. Both have remote pendants on the machines. They are mounted 25mm off of the surface with at least 50mm of clearance around the sides as reommended in the installation instructions. Been on the wall and in regular use for several years without any problems. Hopefully you will have no ventilation problems. Your use of 2 boxes to make one is a great solution. regards |

I checked the registration number on the DVLA site and there is no record, so possibly scrapped many moons ago. I am no motorcycle expert by any stretch of the imagination, but having quickly scanned a few vintage photos, those front forks look a bit Rudge-like to me. Who knows, maybe many manufacturers used tubular construction in those days. Maybe an email to the National Motorcycle museum (if there is one) or Brooklands museum might elicit some help? Brooklands have some pretty knowledgeable people there in the two-wheel department. Have to say, Brooklands didn't reply to an email query I made of them and they weren't any help when I went there in person, either. You may have more luck. John
National Motorcycle Museum LINK Fabulous place. Although I no longer have a motorcycle I have visited several times. A great day out especially if they are hosting a few clubs on the day. regards Edited By Oldiron on 26/11/2022 10:22:43 spelling Edited By Oldiron on 26/11/2022 10:23:14 |

Point of order. The English Tubal-Cain is just as much an upstart. As the great-great-great-great-great grandson of Adam and Eve, the real one was an Israelite! And of course as is usually the case the American one spells his name differently. regards |

I popped back home at lunchtime from the museum and found an empty packet inside the front door. Later when checking my ebay for some items in the post that had tracking, I saw that one had been marked as delivered and remembered the empty plastic bag. Also checking my emails, ebay had announced that EVRI had made a delivery about ten minutes before I got back to the house. The empty bag was the delivery. What I had ordered was 6 thermostatic radiator heads, the ones in the house may date back to the 70's and certainly didn't work other than on or off. The ebay listing helpfully showed all the dimensions, 70mm tall and 50mm diameter, each head, and the letterbox aperture is 42mm high. I am now in touch with the seller and have sent them photos of the bag and its labels.
I think I posted some time ago that I had had the same problem with that delivery company under a different name. ie:- Box too large for letter box, courier claimed it had been delivered through letter box. Never did get my money back even after many complaints. Now I have cctv in the front porch. I sent video footage to Amazon a few weeks ago when the courier claimed to have posted through letter box even though he could clearly be seen leaving the parcel outside and within a few feet of the footpath. We have no fence at the front so everything is open to theft if left outside. I was at home at the time and we have a loud doorbell which he claimed to have rung although the video told a different story. On that occasion I did retrieve the parcel ok. None of them seem to care very much these days. regards |
