Thread: Recycling HDPE |

I made a mould out of aluminium and melted some pieces from a round bar of HDPE in it to make some 2" square blocks. Used a gas torch to heat the mould and feed in small pieces of the bar. A bit crude but it worked OK. Did it outdoors as it was a smelly job. There is a video online from the ARW channel making a powered electric/air extruder for bottle caps. Probably 5 years ago if I recall.

This whole post seems to me to be a very good reason not to post any workshop or build videos on this forum. Seems to me even if you have a cable or pipe out of true or a seemingly non complient clamping on a workpiece it will bring down the wroth of some people on you.
Just my 2 pence worth on the subject. regards This why I don't post that I power my workshop with an extension lead, fed by a 3 pin plug. I'm no doubt living on borrowed time (not that I care).
Jim A 3 pin plug. Huh mine is only 2 pin. The earath is just stuck in the ground. (not really) Steve. Thats also why I never show the pixies in the treadmill powering my shop. LoL regards Don't show that as you would be in deep water . I bet they have no workboots on either. Steve Edited By Steviegtr on 05/01/2023 18:12:17 They run naked Steve so not for general viewing or a pretty sight. regards Edited By Oldiron on 05/01/2023 18:56:27 |

Hi welcome back to the hobby. If you are looking for something small for occasional use any of the small Sieg based machines will all work to a reasonable standard depending on the operator. There is a small Sieg in the ads on this page cheap if you want to try one out. regards |

Adding 10 to 15% of pump diesel will help with the lubrication and aid better running. Adding oil will produce more smoke than you may want and will probably clog up the injectors. I did this when running my Ssangyong 4x4 on chip oil with no problems after 25,000 miles. regards |

10 x 1 was/ is a common thread for lamp holders, the fitting is often brass. 8 x 1 is also not uncommon. Noel. I used lamp extended nipples when making QCTP holders as I was too lazy to thread them on the lathe. I bought a box of 20, 60 x 10 x 1. They were available in brass or steel. regards |

Slightly off topic regarding the quality of audiobooks, more to do about the content of the book mentioned, Entangled Life. Here's a recent example of what the little devils get up to... 'Cruise ship barred from docking in Australia due to fungal growth on hull' - https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/australia-cruise-ship-fungus-intl-hnk/index.html 'The DAFF National Maritime Coordination Center was notified of "small amounts of biofoul" on the hull of the Viking Orion on December 28, DAFF said, adding that biofoul is a common accumulation of microorganisms, plants, algae, or small animals on vessel hulls. I wonder how the growth is spotted - are there sensors/cameras onboard, or do divers inspect the hull before she gets too close? Ches
Even liveaboard sailing boats arriving in Australia have to have their hulls cleaned prior to arrival and are routinely inspected for "foreign" marine growth during the "quarantine " period.. regards |

Greetings to all... It really is best to start a new post when asking questions. Your question was not "on the subject" as the OP was asking about taper on a new lathe. It saves a lot of messing about trying to seperate 2 questions and the myriad of answers that ensue Also when people search for a particular answer to a question it will not be hiding in a post with a totally different title. Anywho I hope you get the answer to your problem. regards |
