Thread: Help choosing a smartphone |
27/02/2018 18:14:32 |
If anyone using the old style sim needs to change the size you can buy a sim card cutter on EBAY for £3. Or go into your local phone shop or local guy in the market place and ask them to do it for you. I bought 1 and cut down sims as phones in the family were upgraded to later models. Saves all the messing about moving contacts etc if you are not tech savvy. regards |

Probably a special. A transfer screw normally has the pointy end machined onto a hexagon to facilitate insertion. As here **LINK** regards

Thread: Boxford AUD |
13/02/2018 22:27:42 |
As Robbo said, Make sure the spring loaded knob pulls all the way out. On my AUD it sometimes sticks. Another thing is when you oil the gearbox don't just put oil in the holes. Make sure you squirt oil up into and onto the gear train. Have a look at mrpete on YouTube he has some good videos on the Southbend versions of the Boxford including a complete gearbox strip & rebuild. Hope this helps. regards |

Thread: Change to subscription prices |

I was wondering why the debit card payment is £47.99 as against £45 for DD for a print sub'. As from January 13th 2018 there is supposed to be no surcharge on debit/credit card payments.

Thread: 3-Phase motor 4-pole or 2-pole? |
10/02/2018 11:08:12 |
I also have the HY VFD's and find them an excellent unit. I went for a 2 pole motor for my Boxford lathe & Mill. I picked my motors from tecmotorsdirect.com They work together really well and have had no problems at all. Have a look here for differences in 2 & 4 pole. **LINK** Hope this helps regards Edited By Oldiron on 10/02/2018 11:10:08 |

Hi Welcome. A copy of LH Speary's "The Amateurs lathe" would be a good start. Also have a look on YouTube for the machining channels such as mrpete22,Abom79 etc. There is a mass of info on YouTube, just type your question in the search box there. Also a search through this forums topics will help as well. Many answers here. If you cannot find the answer just ask and the good folks here will no doubt help.

Just a quick Q' Why does the Tangential HSS show up as number of votes and the rest as a % ?

I have done the survey also. The results appear in settings. |
Thread: Accurate measurement |
07/02/2018 19:47:15 |
I would go with Neil' or Mick B1's simple explanations. For the model engineer or home workshop user there is simply no need to go into long winded diatribes on metrology. regards |
Thread: Deciding on material to buy and being economical |
07/02/2018 15:30:12 |
Gordon W. Posted by Plenty of "scrap" about which is of use for models and real life stuff. Some egs. - plumbing fittings, bed frame, CI lamp base, old weights. This morning my wife threw out a coffee filter thingy, she saw rubbish, I saw a con. rod for displacer on hot air engine.
The other good source for materials are printers and scanners & computer cases. eg, ground round bar stock, small cogs & pulleys, flat sheet metal, bushes, springs, small screws, small nuts & bolts etc etc. How would we home shop guys get along without scrap. |
