Possibly an Aero engine of sorts by the looks of it. A tip if I may. It is better to try and give your posts slighly different names to avoid any confusion. I see you have 3 posts with identical titles although they are in different forums. regards |

Looks like a Mercer 108/401 comparator stand. Used in a test lab or toolroom. It is a very heavy piece of kit and very stable. Could also be a CE Johansen item as they were almost identical. regards Edited By Oldiron on 20/01/2021 19:47:23 |

If you live in the U.K. this might be notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regs maybe be best to check that out first. Only notifiable if the work is in a bathroom, kitchen or outside wiring/sockets/lights in garden as far as I can remember. If the worshop/garage is connected in a properly installed manner with the correct protection at each end it is considered to be inside. I see no problem with moving or replacing the comsumer unit if it is done properly. I would suggest using an extension cord to power the freezer as suggested by Grinstone Cowboy. regards I have not needed to look at Part P for a long time and understand that it changes, but consumer units used to be specifically mentioned as requiring notification. That’s why I suggested checking. mgnbuk must type a lot faster than I do. Edited By V8Eng on 17/01/2021 14:20:00 Edited By V8Eng on 17/01/2021 14:28:11 I have always understood that the main consumer unit was reportable but any secondary ones are not. " All other electrical installation work is non notifiable - namely additions and alterations to existing installations outside special locations, and replacements, repairs and maintenance anywhere. " Special locations include kitchen, bathroom & garden instalations. regards Edited By Oldiron on 17/01/2021 14:46:23 |

Hi Ian. I find that keeping the super glue in the fridge door behind the wifes pickle pots seem to make it last a very long time. Just allow it to warm up a bit before use then straight back in the fridge. regards Thank you - I'll try that. Although I may have to find a cunning way to hide it. My wife has a thing about "non-food" being kept in her fridge - probably dating back to when my son's maggots escaped from their bait-box over-night. It looked and sounded like a scene from a Hammer Horror film when she opened the door (and the screaming started). He wasn't quickly forgiven and (being his Father) nor was I. Regards, IanT Late replying IanT sorry. I am very lucky that my wife is a mechanical engineer and is into steam engines & tractors and fully understands my sometimes strange habits. Like putting a bearing in the freezer or a part in the oven. regards |

Hi Everybody, Liquid Mercury will shift lead deposits very quickly. In the old days when gun ownership was possible I used it with great effect to remove lead deposits from barrels and it was standard process with shooters. With sensible precautions it was quite safe. Not sure if if would be possible to do in today's PC world. Len Can you still buy liquid mercury ? regards |

I was slightly amused to find that the best way of making a square hole involved buying a $150 rose index rather than a $150 broach... However, it does look like a handy piece of kit - though quite expensive (even before the carriage). It's gone on my todo list!
Iain I think if you were to buy a Rose block (better still, make one) it would turn out cheaper than buying a set of broaches & dies and a press to use them. regards |

Or buy John Stevenson er block from Arc Euro little bit cheaper than importing from the states and do the same job BUT can you get 2" through a JS block? I cannot. Cheapest way is to make yoiur own. regards |

Tom Walshaw aka Tubal Cain & mrpete aka Tubalcain. One with a space and one without. Wiki shows spelling as :- "Tubal-cain or Tubalcain is a person mentioned in the Bible, in Genesis 4:22," I suppose we will never know the original spelling. BTW some great models you have there Tony. regards Edited By Oldiron on 16/01/2021 10:57:22 |
