Thread: Muncaster's Simple Entablature Engine |

Hi Jason, you mention using small metric sizes with fine threads, could you list the ones I would need along with taps and dies as mine start at M3 or would I be able to use BA sizes as I have 2 to 8 ba in stock. Regards Roger (newbie) |

Thanks Jason, yes it's a shame about College Engineering, there were some useful castings that are now always out of stock. |

As I have repeatedly stated, I recommend that people don’t buy anything from them that the buyer cannot afford to throw away. There customer service reeks - if it exists at all. Totally disagree with you, there are some items that are not up to standard but in the main all I have bought from there over the past 6 years have been fine and even great. There have been instances where goods have not arrived, not all there or broke in a short time but every time I contact them I have had a good proactive response and replacement even with extras to say sorry. Must be your attitude when you contact them not done it yet Roger Edited By Rockingdodge on 27/07/2019 15:45:12 |
Thread: Which Stuart models can be done on a 7x14 lathe with no mill? |
24/07/2019 19:25:21 |
There's a chap, Andrew Whale, has been doing a series of youtube videos creating small Stuart engines Learning Turning, he's using a mini lathe and then eventually a mini mill but his first Stuart engine, after an oscillator was an S50. Worth while following his journey. |

The first 3 items are for cutting short screws and then dressing the ends square and clean. Wouldn't they have have needed to have threads in them for that purpose though? |

That did cross my mind and might be right for the 2 on the left but haven't seen pipework in as large sizes as that though |

Hi, these were amongst some items bought and I'm not sure of their purpose. Gentleman was an engineer and clock maker. Item 1: Left hans one has BA sizes on it. Item 2: Made in USA, Industro Item 3: I don't know if this is complete, about 3" is size, one part is hinged but certainly not a knurling tool for the lathe, but could be wrong Thanks Roger |

Depleted uranium is only slightly radioactive, no more than encountered day to day but it has high density hence it's use in bullets and shells. Roger |
Thread: Denham Junior Mk2 toolpost |
21/06/2019 20:53:44 |
I'm looking for advice on choosing a Dickson type quick change tool post for my lathe. Problem is what size do I get as best fit and what info do I need to put here for you to advise me. The Denham Junior Mk2 has a centre height of 5" from the flat, 4.5" from the top of the V. the holding bolt is .5" and is approx 45 mm from the centre of the bolt to the edge of the top slide and surface of topslide to centre of spindle is 14.87 mm. My thoughts are a tool post that will overhang the edge of the topslide allowing me to drop the cutter holder below the level of the topslide although I expect an avalanche of 'don't/can't' do that! Any ideas fellow machinists? Edited By Rockingdodge on 21/06/2019 20:54:32 |

Why don't you plan a weekend away in Kent with SWMBO and then deliver them in person? Cost of of the fuel might be less than that of a courier! Dave Hmm I think the cost of taking her indoors outdoors and staying overnight make just take a very large chunk of the Simplex money!!! Nice idea though. Roger |

Sorry, had an away day with SWMBO 'shopping' whoopee! Destination is Maidstone, Kent. He's planning to collect from there. The chassis is a 5" gauge 060 approx sizes 34" x 10" x 6" plus a box 24" x 14" x 10". Weight I would guesstimate at around 30 kgs for the chassis plus another 10 ish kgs for the box. Regards Roger |

Hi, a chap from Denmark has bought my Simplex chassis and box of and parts, his sister lives in Maidstone. Is there a way (courier etc.) that would transport it from Herefordshire safely. Any suggestions (sensible) would be gratefully received. Roger

Thread: Polly II query |
14/04/2019 16:59:03 |
Hi, Just been firing up a friends Polly II built around 1978 for a shake down and found an issue with the regulator. It seemed to be stuck in the closed position and when opened it looks to be unscrewing itself rather than opening the valve. My question is if I remove the bolts off the backhead and try to withdraw the regulator should it come out as an assembly and can I then use threadlock to stop it unscrewing itself? I am assuming that the assembly is threaded and not a press fit even though the plans don't show any threading. Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks Roger |
