Given mr gilligans discovery of the "truth" . Would not all these silly words be overtaken by metrication making their use redundant. Perhaps this explains the loss of memory as to original meaning. |

May be a bit late with this........... Reading up some posts I read that the French from 790-1780 used LA LIVRE (eng POUND) as currency. Not to be confused with LE LIVRE which is a book. How odd. |
Thread: Another Mystery Tool |

I'm with Roy Entwhistle on this one. My parents home was gaslit my father had a similar item and was the only heat source for soft soldering. His hobby was making ciggie lighters from bullet type items that used to fall from the sky at that time. When I became interested in mending bikes and m/c s I purchased a NEW twin cylinder version "Vapour-something" one tube meths the other side c/wool with a burner head rather like a mini blowlamp. It is possible that the mystery item is used simply as a jewellers spirit lamp still used today

Vintage eng...........given the vehicle you are hanging out of, the closest you have come to a spline is a one inch square one that fits into the bronze centre of a cone clutch. But I won't tell anyone.😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇 Given its colour it might have been the one I owned😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈 |

Andrew.......AMOC list an offset alloy cylinder in their spares list, may be an alternative to a lot of swarf. This assumes it's not a project towards a diploma???? Good luck with the project |

A further thought on the topic.......I seem to recall a group of amateurs who have volunteered to help out in solving mechanical and electrical problems related to the disabled/limbless mobility problems in the UK. But I cannot drag it from my memory. Can any body recall the name? This group may be able to assist Mario perhaps assisting in setting up a similar group in Italy, perhaps avoiding the purchase costs to his charity. This sounds the type of challenge some welcome Best wishes to Mario and his team.

A certain "VET"on TV seems to have boxes of such items, might be a source of advice. |

May I at, at a risk of pedancy, ask if this forum is the correct place to raise matters legal and production in relation to commercial activity? Giving advice in such circumstances may have legal implications. I have believed, perhaps in innocence, that model eng.......etc titles-indicated a hobby undertaken by amateurs. Where exactly are "we" going with such matters. |

Michael W........was the BSI really that good. I remember , perhaps in the 60s they came up with tolerances for the old type hand drills(the ones with the bevels and handle). The mfrs protested and the tolerances were reduced by 400 percent. Which begs the question as to who runs the BSI and who benefits? Like a lot of legislation if it's "About right" for "Some " it's "near enough" |

Martin........you appear to agree with my earlier post. Working out a calendar/length of day etc requires a mental challenge. Perhaps the scifi concept of "Stardate time" may not be the stuff of fiction after all. John |

Neil. ......... Yes hence my question mark My question , in humour, masks my ignorance as to what life on another planet etc.would be like.Until you raised my interest in such matters I thought it was like earth but in a "different place" Working out what a SEDNA calander would look like, and what a SEDNA working day would comprise is a mental challenge. |
29/03/2017 16:37:51 |
Neil the moderator.......having my interest whetted on Astro matters. I was reading about SEDNA a planet(?) in the Kuyper belt. 900 x the distance from sun to earth whose orbit was 11000 earth years per SEDNA year. How would a 12 copies per year work in such circumstances😇😇 |
