Eqvivalent Draw Bar Horse Power (EDBHP) maybe. It was ,I think, the measured draw bar horsepower between tender and train (DBHP) plus the calculated horsepower for taking locomotive and tender up the gradient. It was safer to measure potential full power of locomotive going up rather than down or level. Britania going uphill Seetle Carisle Max 2300 EDBHP measured/calculated at a speed of 45 mph going uphill

Quite some tests of how to instal and use the sewing machine Hall sensor has been made before I found a solution I am satisfied with. A high resolution picture here: Only problem is that the link below picture offers something much better and cheaper.

Thread: Making a hole in my headstock. Good, bad or unnecessary? |
03/03/2023 21:19:53 |
The date plate was superfluous as I ran a 1.5kW 3ph 6 pole VFD. Main reason for hole was I needed support for belt tensioning. It was a nice side effect that lubrication of that disc/backgear thing became much easier |

I drilled three holes in a Boxford A and it did not die of shame. It is at a friend now and is worlds best Boxfords I think. Edited By Niels Abildgaard on 03/03/2023 04:32:52 |

Thread: Cant seem to get a nice finish |

My first Boxford did the same and I changed bearings and motor without effect. One day I turned the leadscrew from the rigth end with a monkey wrench and tumbler disconneted, lathe stopped and no cutting. It went very smothly most, of the way and then definately not.By succesive disconnecting the drive train ,the periodic binding was localized to be in the Norton gear box.Taking that appart ,filing a couple of damaged teeth and reassmbling was a nasty job but it fixed the ripples. I have had same pattern in some of my chineese lathes and I have always localized the problem within a couple of minutes by using hand and brain. |
Thread: Advice on lifting and moving lathe please |

Posted by Hollowpoint on 05/02/2023 16:42:34:
I've had to move several Boxfords over the years. I've always stripped them into big lumps that can be manoeuvred by hand. (Just about). Take the chuck, tailstock, toolpost and saddle off. Disconnect the belt and split the bed from the cabinet. You can go further and split the bed and headstock if you want but its not essential IMO. It doesn't take nearly as long as you might think and putting it all back together is no big deal. It's much safer to transport it this way as its no longer top heavy, in fact you can put some of the parts in the bottom of the cabinet to stabilise it. My Boxfords (5 I think) were all moved as Hollowpoint say and I could do it almost alone. The bolts between headstock and bed are very difficult to get at and it is not nessecary if You are three, and then leave the gearbox in place as well .Easy ,clean and safe

I once had a Boxford A and made it behave. Best motor was a 6 pole(1000 rpm) 1.1kW three phase and a VFD. You can see picture here and judge noise after having put motor on top of headstock.

Hello ega Stone is one of a pair that worshipped a central, bigger tombstone with doves and angels. I pass the unused twin every day with dog. Cost was 1 kg instantcoffee and some chokolate. 21.8mm is measure from top of compound slide to centreline within plus minus 0.01mm. Glad You do not disapprove lathe harming. |

The 5£ second hand shop under-thing is 550mm wide and can easily pass a 770mm dor opening. It has not felt dangerous and unstable ,but my very nice appartment has no dor steps. My latest inhumane lathe experiment is a castored and aligned mixture of a 180*300 and a 210*400 lathe with a homemade 48mm hole spindle. Target was to make a potent lathe where all parts can be handled by a reasonably fit 77 year old.The stone is a borderline case

Thread: Manufacturers lathe stand v making your own? |

My 250 sits on 50-100 kg dolerite or adiabas as have all my lathes. The next will probably be an 210 400 with 48mm spindle bore and the stand will be three-pointers:two on flor and one on wall. I have difficulty chosing between two concepts,as I have some very nice pieces of wood from eating tables from the municipal dump. There is a certain poetic beauty in having having helped to raise a family and then support an old mans lathe toys.

I have had a WM 250 with MorseCone 3/20mm bore spindle/sold it and do not miss it. My present WM250 with Morsecone 4/28mm bore is the one the one to put on top of my grave. It will miss me. The first was sold because parting off was marginal at best and the present does it for breakfast. The last picture shows how it can do ugly things to a piece of oxy -acetylen cut steel of lousy breed.
