Hi Celso nice job. I have used a similar machine when at work but the grinding wheel was horizontal and the V was adjustable to alter the size of the champher. They produce a lovely champher evan on hardened parts. David |

Hi Daighi welcome to the forum. I have an M Type Myford similar age to your lathe. You should also join the https://groups.io/g/drummondlathe web group as there are owners on there with the same lathe and there may be spares about as well as information. David |

Hi have you thought of just turning your own. I needed a new double pully for the motor on my M Type so just looked up dimensions on the web, made a V shaped form tool and turned it with correct bore for motor and correct pully sizes. The small double one on motor.

I have made gears for a Myford Drummond M Type lathe from Acetal with no problems so far. I had been making them from cast iron but it is so messy and Acetal is do much easier to cut and having using the plastic gears for for months with no problems eavan heavy cutting tough EN 24T and screw cutting many internal and external threads. Thread: CNC MILLING MACHINE Denford Micromill |
06/04/2023 18:26:01 |
The person in charge of setting up the Makerspace has little practical experience in workshops and has formed a group to help to find what is needed and the building has had a design done by a company which I believe is involved in school workshops. He has asked us what we think of the layout and equipment that they have proposed as the building is going to be gutted and new spaces for each area are to be formed in the shell of the building and any room sizes changed by the architect before the end of this month. There are to be textiles including sewing, machine embroidery and printing. Woodwork including power saw, planner and shaper and CNC router. Metalwork pillar drill, bench top lathe, larger floor lathe, bench top milling machine and CNC milling machine. Electronics section and a CAD drawing section. 4 seats of software etc. There will be a small charge to use the unit on a monthly basis. There is a substantial amount of money available for the whole prodject but I am not able to say the amount but it is part of a government Grant for the area which can only be spent in such local prodjects and if not used would have to be returned. |

Hi all I am helping to set up a Makerspace for my local council, and it has been suggested the a CNC mill is bought for this unit as well as other machinery and tools in the metalwork department. The company who is helping the council has suggested a Denford micromill pro with tooling and software etc. To my mind it looks like a toy machine and as far as I can find out so far it dosn't look suitable to cut steel and other metals. Can anyone tell me if you have used one and if there us any better CNC mill we can purchase. David |

Hi Bill we used to stick around the edge with double sided tape and drilled through for the vice holes to fasten on the hardboard top.

All benches I have worked on had a covering of 3mm thick oil tempered hardboard. It does two things, it protects the job you are working on especialy if you slide it and it protects the bench from damage as well as damping sound a little if you need to apply force to a job. It is easily replaced from time to time when needed. Perhaps you should put some reinforcing to the frame where the vice will be bolted. |

Hi Rowan what lathe do you have. I have a MT 1 ER16 collet set from RDG. If you can give us an idea for the job in hand it may help in suggesting other ideas.

Having run my Acetal gears for over a month and having used them for rough cutting screw cutting and finnish milling they look just as new. I would not worry about having these gears again as long as there is no heat to damage them. They don't evan get warm on my lathe. David |

The bronze casting will be half sided, the casting will be drilled and milled to give a datum and then it can be mounted on the crossslide on a jig with an inline boring bar, suported by the tailstock ccenter, with the thread form on to screw cut the thread moving in sidways per cut to depth of thread. Thread: Myford type M half nut |

You have it right. The top half slides along on top of the leadscrew to prevent the leadscrew pushing away from the bottom half nut. It wears a little over time to have a impression of the leadscrew and that can give a ratchet effect as you traverse the saddle along. Just scrape and file it smoothe. David |
