+1 Jason. Note from Arc's websight --- *Note. Mini collet nuts (Type M) have a smaller thread diameter and are not compatible with Type A or Type T1 collet nuts. Keith. |

Although a comparative newcomer to the forum I have been a member long enough to remember with a smile the exchanges between John and a certain member mentioned by David Standing. Johns posts have always been informative, entertaining, and humorous. Had me ROTFLMAO. Get well soon John, this forum needs and misses your input. Best regards, Keith |
Thread: Model Engineers' Day at the Forncett Steam Museum |

Oh dear! I thought I was being helpful! Sorry Emgee. Edited By Keith Rogers 2 on 02/10/2017 17:13:44 |

I totally agree Emgee, what brilliant day it was at Forncett yesterday, in spite of the weather. What a wonderful sight to see those engines in such well maintained condition and actually being steamed, not sitting in a museum getting covered in dust. I think the highlight was possibly the huge triple expansion engine from Worthingtons ticking over like a sewing machine. (And the hot pork rolls) As you have already said a good display of models and model engineering. It's not often you see a steam powered gramophone playing, but we did! Again a great day, highly recommended, thank you Bill. Keith. p.s.One small point Emgee the chap that owns the engines and gives such an entertaining talk his name is Rowan not Ramon. |

Hi, I'm going to the Forncett Model Engineers Day on Sunday. Can you tell me if the full size exhibits will be in steam? Keith. |
Thread: Centec Mk3 vertical head |

Sorry Julian I may have mislead you, now you point out the other grub screw. It's many years since I owned my Centec perhaps memory's failed. My suggestion for tightening the top one still stands tho'. Keith. Edited By Keith Rogers 2 on 08/09/2017 12:08:45 |

The stud locates in a groove in the quill to stop it turning. You could cut a shallow slot in the end of the stud for a screwdriver and tighten the nut, it would save you dismantling the head. If I recall correctly there's nothing inside to hold to stop the stud from turning anyway. Keith |
Thread: Swaging, crimping and peening |

Hi Dave, You're right, you are asking too much of the brass you have it's probably wrought brass which seems to hate being deformed. (Been there, done that). You'd be surprised at the difference it makes if you use the right stuff. And you wont have to anneal it! Keith Edited By Keith Rogers 2 on 07/09/2017 15:01:02 |

Attached pic of drawing supplied to me by a tubular rivet manufacturer giving correct proportions for a swaging tool. I have made several of these in the past from silver steel. They need to be hardened, preferably dead hard and with a well polished finish. For brass rivets up to about 3/16" dia. I used the tool in my drill press running at a slow speed and with lubrication. I have successfully closed a 1/4" dia. tubular steel rivet with a short tool in the bench vise.

My Smiths catalogue lists CZ106 as rolled brass i.e sheet. When I used to modify lamp fittings for someone in the dim distant past I used CZ131 which I could buy as round bar. Keith |

Use CZ131 Brass for making rivets. Free machining brass with some ductility. Somewhere I have a drawing with the dimensions for the correct form of the tool for swaging tubular rivets of various sizes. If I can find it I'll scan it and try and post it on here. Keith. |

Thread: Toolmex chuck problem? |

Hi Andrew, Is it possible the previous owner ground the jaws true after mounting the chuck? If you have another set of jaws you can try them to see if they run true. Keith |
Thread: power supply for organ |

Hi Duncan, Why not get a 24v Power supply and drop to 12v with your regulator. (you'd probably need a heatsink) Keith |
