Thread: Warco WM14 Z-axis power drive?
24/06/2023 08:44:41

Greg -

My setup has a NEMA 23 stepper motor driving the toothed belt, the pullleys are 2 to 1 ratio. There is a 24V, 6.3A power supply and a DM542T stepper driver There is also a PWM signal generator board in the black box, with the switches remoted to the outside. All the parts were sourced from eBay sites. There is a microswitch to stop the drive once the head of the mill is at the top of the column, the 'override' button disables this to allow the head to go back down. The 'max' button overrides the speed setting.

I found a circuit diagram on the 'Myfordboy' website which helped with the wiring. I originally bought all the parts to fit to the x axis, as Myfordboy had done, but changed my mind as to which axis would be most useful to do first. I have still to do the x axis...

Yes you can - I have done it and wouldn't be without it now.

Thread: Cant seem to get a nice finish
18/02/2023 19:24:28

Yes, using the fine feed. I have tried every option I can think of to get round the problem but can't seem to make it better - or worse...

I have the same problem with my lathe (Warco WM 290V). It appears to be that the lathe tool is moving very slightly into and away from the workpiece, or maybe very slightly up and down.. I have been unable to measure any movement causing the patterning but have concluded it is a problem in the apron. Possibly a gear with eccentric bore as suggested by Martin Connelly. My lathe had the problem from new, but it took me a long time to realise the issue wasn't caused by the lather operator, by which time the lathe was a long way out of guarantee.

Thread: Designs for a 1/2" hacksaw blade type parting off tool holder

My design for this. Slot in bar was cut with slitting saw. Set in teeth of hacksaw blade removed with careful use of a hammer.

Thread: Making a Carriage stop for a lathe
05/03/2022 20:50:15

In case it's not clear from the photos, I used the quick release mechanism from a bike front wheel to make the clamping mechanism. Much easier than two hidden bolts!

Saddle Stop 2.jpg

I modified the stop on my Warco 290V to make it quick to set and release.

As regular viewers of the Queen's Christmas Broadcast should realise, it is produced in alternate years by the BBC, ITV and Sky.

Although it is possible to avoid paying for the BBC by avoiding paying the licence fee, it is not possible to avoid paying for any of the other channels unless one stops buying from a company that advertises on or sponsors a programme on one of those channels.

Thread: Metric Imperial holograph rule
23/06/2021 13:51:14

I have a 6" version of this rule. I obtained it in a 'swap' with someone at school in the early '70s. Possibly this was given out as a gift at a trade exhibition or similar. I don't know the significance of the name on the reverse.

I have built two of these kits.

Neither worked...

Thread: Lathe DRO
18/04/2021 13:45:59

Jim, the part you have labelled as 'What's this?' is the attachment for a guard. You can remove this. The guard (there was one on my WM 29V0) when fitted does nothing useful, though I think it is supposed to keep chips and swarf from being thrown towards the operator

Perhaps you can get inspiration from someone who paints road markings for a living.

I modified the saddle stop on my Warco lathe to clamp using a bicycle quick-release wheel lock. This makes it very easy and quick to use.

Nigel, did you not look at my suggestion of Polly, page 35 of catalogue both low and high hex heads

Edited By JasonB on 16/10/2020 20:38:04

Apologies Jason, yes I saw these but wanted some with standard size hexagon heads to match the ones I already have.

16/10/2020 20:32:30

Thank you for all these replies. It looks like if I want a steel screw from the UK, I can get every type of head except hex.

16/10/2020 14:26:25

I want some M1.6 hexagon-headed bolts/screws. I purchased some online a year or so ago but cannot remember who from and I have not been able to track down a seller on the internet. Can anyone suggest a stockist, please?

Thread: What fuses Warco lathe and Chester mill
24/06/2020 18:54:02

According to the manual for my WM14 mill, it is an 8A fuse.

Thread: Single DRO for 2 machines
15/12/2019 21:24:43

I have made a simple switch box to allow me to use my two axis DRO with either my mill and lathe. I mostly use the DRO on the mill, but swapping over to the lathe and back is easy and quick.
