"Just take the bits you find useful and filter out the bits you don't
We are all treading different paths, sometimes these paths cross, sometimes they don't";
Very well put Ady. That's my take on it. ATB, Daniel

Thread: Positioning bushes for welding |

+1 to ega's post. Tack weld, adjust to final position, finish weld; ATB, Daniel

Thread: Lathe chuck guards - how many folk use them? |
05/11/2019 07:25:47 |
+ 1 to the above. The only time my chuck key is in the chuck, is when it is actaully being used. Rigidly, after that it is replaced into it's hole on the rear splash guard. This deliberately forced habit has become a reflex, not unlike wearing a car seatbelt. ATB, Daniel

Thread: What is it/they called? |
28/10/2019 07:05:46 |
I find that, often, even suppliers can use a variety of names for a given item. My preferred search engine is Google; I then click on Images, on the results page. That frequently throws up a lot of the variant appelations of said object, and is very quick to find what you may be looking for. Often, after that, it's correct term is usually found in it's description. ATB, Daniel |
Thread: Broken Handle |
27/10/2019 13:37:03 |
Hi Derek, A google image search for Ball Crank Handle throws up quite a lot of results. ATB, Daniel

Thread: What to do with a stationary engine |

What a great idea. Quite inspiring

Thread: What is this called? |
12/10/2019 11:40:21 |
Google Reverse Image Search often works well with these kinds of problems. ATB, Daniel

Thread: Exactly... |
09/10/2019 22:32:01 |
Why "particularly British" ? Do you seriously believe that Britain (Gt), is the only country to have contributed to the technological evolution of the human race ? Do I really need to give you examples, Howard ? GRRrrrr ........ Thank's guys for the explanations
|
06/10/2019 19:31:22 |
Robert, Thank's for the explanation. But, oh dearie me .... What a world we have created for ourselves. Please excuse my ignorance on such matters; but, what are CMM and WEEE ? ATB, Daniel |
Thread: Would you buy one of these collets? |
05/10/2019 21:52:51 |
Quite possibly a perfectly servicable item. But, at £19.95 postage to France, I wouldn't consider it. ATB, Daniel

What I find really frustrating is walking by the scrap skip at work and seeing off-cuts of new stock still marked with the material specification and not being able to to take any. I've stopped looking.
Is there no legitimate way to make an "arrangement" ? ATB, Daniel

You've started me thinking now. On reflection, I probably have quite a few. If I can find the Rowntooit, I'll go and count them. Maybe .... ATB, Daniel |
Thread: Water in fuel |
24/09/2019 19:22:30 |
Will water alone cause rust, in the absence of air (being covered by the fuel) ? Maybe fit a drain cock to the tank, as per John Fletcher's anecdote. ATB, Daniel

Thread: Anthropocene |

Yes, it is Neil. I believe the artist has achieved his objective. Producing such powerful images, where we have to question our own sensibilities. I still maintain, however, that he maintains the position of a neutral documentalist. ATB, Daniel

Thread: Work holding? |

Probably, a lot depends on whether the op needs to skim the od of the original bar. Will the parent bar pass through the spindle bore, etc, etc ? It's unclear what level of precision is required for this job. ATB, Daniel
