Thread: Hermes and couriers
06/08/2022 21:04:36

You should have noticed that my gripe is with those that are not insured for business usage and it about time that the authorities clamped down on it as basically they are driving without insurance while they are using it for business purposes.

06/08/2022 13:06:00

I applaud anyone that gets out there and try's to earn a living instead of sitting at home living off benefits, I have been a courier driver / rider on and off for the past 20 years or so years and can tell you it is not the drivers and riders that get rich, the working day is long and tiring and the pressure can be relentless.

My big gripe about self employed couriers, deliveroo and all the other fast food delivery drivers and cyclists is that the vast majority if not all do not have business insurance for their vehicles probably because their salary wouldn't cover it.

Some may disagree with this statement but I still know a lot trying to earn a living in this industry .

Thread: 3D printing
30/05/2022 19:08:53

Jason in answer to your question the back faces are flat,I did see that castings were available from the US but the prices have shot up and it is now USD 62 per casting plus USD 100+ postage and them I'm sure I would be stung for some sort of tax or other at this end so I would be looking at over USD 400 plus tax.

I am looking for someone that can 3D print a pattern locomotive wheel for me so that I can have some cast, it is for a 3.5 gauge Pennsylvania A3 Switcher that I am in the process of building.

I have all the measurements for it and can supply photos from various angles of the pattern.

All costs for material, postage and time spent in doing it will be covered so if anyone is able to help me out with this could you please get in touch.

Thread: recent power outage in Medway
23/02/2022 07:07:27

Point taken SOD, I wasn't in any way criticising the grammar it was just the use of the word outage.

Got to go now and get those diapers that I left in the truck of my station wagon ( it's all just humour )

Thread: Sieg SX3 Z axis adjustment

Sorry that should have read Z axis gib adjustment, I know where the adjusting screws are but how or in what order do you adjust them.

Hi

I need to adjust the Z axis on my Sieg SX3 and before I get started I thought I would ask if there is a correct procedure for doing this, I have an idea on how to do it but would like to double check so that I don't create any problems for myself.

Thanks in advance

Thread: Which grade of. bronze
13/09/2021 20:04:48

I'm looking for a bit of advice on which grade of bronze to use for machining some cylinders out of.

I am following Kozo's instructions in building a Pennsylvania A3 Switcher and for the cylinders he recommends using leaded tin copper bronze but nothing more specific than that so could someone throw some light on the best grade to use.

Thanks in advance

Thread: Which grade of stainless steel
25/06/2021 20:26:04

I'm just about to make a grate for a 3.5 gauge locomotive out of stainless steel and was wondering if there was a recommended preference which grade of stainless to use.

I understand the machinability of the different grades and that some are more resistant to the corrosive gases than others so what would be the best all rounder.

Thread: Material for coupling rods
19/04/2021 19:56:49

I'm about to place a order for some materials and was wondering if there was a preference on what grade of steel to use for the coupling rods on a 3.5 gauge steam locomotive.

I was going to order BMS (080A15) but thought I would check to make sure.

Thread: countersink advice
14/03/2021 18:34:46

I found those sets of countersinks but was not sure of the quality so I think I'm going to go with either Martins suggestions and make my own, have plenty of old drill bits that I can grind down or the one from Bernard to make some shown by Chris on clickspring. Wish me luck

14/03/2021 10:55:28

I need to countersink approx 100 holes in brass with a maximum diameter of 5mm so I need to purchase a 82 degree countersink but unsure if it makes a difference how many flutes is best for use with brass.

Thread: Bushing material
08/03/2021 11:50:07

The more I read the more confused I seem to get so I thought I would ask the experts amongst you.

I need to order some bronze for bushings to be used on a 3.5 gauge steam locomotive and would like some advice on which grade is best to use, PB 102, Colphos 90, SAE 660, LG2 or maybe there is something else more suitable ?
