I was hoping ti identify it so I can find a home for it, Its pointless me holding on to a New old stock lathe screw when I am sure there are people out there who would love to have and use this.
its no good for my lathe |

I have just up loaded three photos of the lathe screw to my profile photos in case any one knows what its from |

It is complete with nut, I have two, one sealed in the wax and one opened But for some reason, I am not 100% sure its for the chipmaster. as I said, the wax sealed one came in a opened hard plastic cover/bag there is nothing to say the bag is NOT right for the part. I am trying to find a photo on google of one so I can compare it, but have had no luck the colchester parts manual does not show the part very clearly not does it give details |

The screw in question is a New old stock lead screw that came in a wax covering, it was in a Colchester light green hard plastic long bag (opened) the part number on the Colchester plastic bag reads 2155 I am looking to make sure the lead screw does indeed match the part number |

Hi Just I am on the last legs of a full restoration on my Myford super 7 Mk1 (see my photos in my profile)
One of the last things I will be doing is fitting the leadscrew, (I have a myford super 7 Mk1 with screw cutting gear box )
I have use of an other lathe (colchester bantam 1600) and was thinking of buying a acme all thread and machining the ends my self.
being a Mk1, the leadscrew does not go all the way through the gearbox.
so my question is, what is the thred, pitch etc ill need and where should/could I buy it from
Kind regards

Thread: Myford Super 7 Mk1 Motor drive belt size plz |
25/07/2017 07:17:51 |
Thanks for all the help and advice guys
I found my two original belts that came with my Myford when I bought it a couple of years ago. Funny enough, they where right in front of my eyes LOL (see photos on my profile, the belts are on the wall in front of me, silly me) The belts I have had 34 written on them both. Now I do know from ordering belts on other machines that in the older days, these measurments were not read from the same place as they are now. If memory serves me, the older measurments were from the core line (an imaginery center line) anyways I now have two motor drive belts and I am VERY pleased to say my myford fired up on its own power for the first time yesterday in over 7 years (ive not had it that long) It run like a dream, VERY VERY quiet, although I have given the old girl a Full rebuild (and not just a simple paint job)
as to link belts, why do I keep hearing about this rubbish???? the reason you have a V belt over a flat belt is to give a bigger footprint at point of contact with the pulley, with a link belt, the footprint is reduced at the point of contact, meaning your not going to get the same grip. Its that simple!!!!!!!!!!! nothing no one can say is going to change this VERY SIMPLE FACT
If any one is interested, I have uploaded a few more photos of my myford on my profile |

Thread: Lathe wiring |

Hi Guys
Could do with a little help plz
Just bought my self a used Colchester Bantam the other day. when I was looking at it, the seller told me of a fault, only he was a tad wrong about what the switch done,
He was under the impression that the reverse switch was a stop switch, every time he had gone to use the reverse switch thinking it was a stop, the lathe would trip the main fuse board switch.
This is a Bantam 1600, twin speed with a reverse switch, the who lot runs through a Phase converter (not a rotoary phase converter nor a VFD) its has a large transformer and about 8 odd capacitors in the phase box.
He gave me the Colchester original manual, and all the wires on the lathe look to be un toched from the factory (you know you can tell) but here,s my problem, The manual wiring does not corispond to my lathe, the two speed switch is wired up very differant.
I dont want to sight the lathe only to find out latter that it has a wiring fault.
any one know much about this subject ??? or better still, are you near NW7 London??? |

We all complain that the cost of having milling cutters sharpened is expensive but these firms have to cover their running and equipment costs. The question you have to ask is: How much would you charge to sharpen a cutter if you were doing it as a commercial business ? The only cheap way to do it is to purchase your own (expensive) tool and cutter grinder or build your own. Paul.
VERY WELL SAID that man |

Lets not turn this topic into "lets save face" I to run a small company, And I know a few things about business, NO business ever started with an idea of doing right by the customer, they are there to make money, full stop, lets not be fooled.
My point is/was. wether you buy directly from china/far east, or support the so called UK seller who then buys from the far east, your money is ending up in the far east.
if the UK seller was to buy from the UK, I would whole hartly support them. If your money is ending up in the far east, why not buy direct from them your self????????? |
31/12/2016 13:50:10 |
If supporting home grown suppliers etc was the case "WHY ARE THEY BUYING THERE STOCK FROM OVERSEAS"
You have lost the argument there I am afraid.
Stop for a minute, and dont argue for the hell of it, just think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!

if your not in a hurry, Ebay from china or the far east is plenty good enough.
The likes of Arc zone and RGT tools, all buy them from there, they buy them in bulk GETTING even better prices from the seller, they wait the 4 to 6 weeks FREE delivery and then double or treble the price, Its not like its going to go wrong maybe like an electrical item,
I buy ALL my end mills this way and will never pay double again |
