Aforementioned Lamp ID plates finally fixed to the lamp bodies. The rivets are 0.5mm AF hex on a 0.3mm shank.

That is a lovely job. I have a hybrid Kerry Meddings drill as the base casting on a Meddings I bought was found to be cracked when I got it home and cleaned it. I bought a Kerry like this from a well known auction site as it had a nice column and was a floor standing machine unlike the bench Meddings. As I then found that the Kerry had suffered dentistry on the quill rack I made a hybrid from the two. Head and table are Meddings, rest is Kerry.

On the gear cutting question, get yourself a copy of Ivan Law's book on the subject. I bought a job lot of the Brown and Sharp cutters (guess where from) and designed my loco gearbox around the cutters I had in stock. The calculations for the safe power transmission capacity were found in a Machinerys Handbook, but that shouldn't be required for your model. I used a Vertex BS0 dividing head on an old Denbigh miller. The gears came out great for a first time effort.  I'll pop a couple of pictures on shortly.

This is an image created from the CAD model, the lamp plates are roughly 14 x 7mm. The black parts are raised with respect to the white parts. The model number was stamped on the prototype.

All wax printing/casting was done by Michael Jack of Stanier Engineering in Auckland. I would not hesitate to recommend this thoroughly nice guy to fellow modellers. Usual disclaimer - only a very satisfied customer!

Microscope on Dore Westbury. Drilling spindle is a Proxxon flexible drive held in a drill chuck in a modified tool post holder. You can just about see the plate I was drilling, taped to a bit of card.

Further to these lamps. I have drawn the manufacturers plates in 3D. These have been printed in wax in New Zealand and investment cast in silicon bronze. The detail level was at the edge of the printing capability. I have made a jig to bend the plates to fit the lamp body. Pictures hopefully in a minute.

Thread: Warco WM240 lathe

A friend of mine in Israel is considering one of these Warco WM240 lathes.

Does anyone have one and what have been your experiences with it?

Thanks

Thread: Dickson Toolpost - Tool Holder Rack

Thanks folks, Some food for thought there.

04/01/2017 17:44:03

Thanks guys. That was quick.

I know Malcolm of ME Laser, so I could ask him.

The two pins make sense and I was thinking of mounting them upright as they are used. Now I'll have to have a look to see if they are better as in George's pictures as I hadn't thought of that. Should be better for storing ones with large boring tools

I have a serious shortage of feline swinging room!

Hi everyone.

I have just treated my lathe to a New Year clean and was thus moving and cleaning Dickson tool holders. I really have too many for them to be kicking about in the swarf tray and it set me wondering if there was an existing design for a storage rack.

An Internet search has only found aluminium ones for the dovetail type beloved of the Americans.

I was thinking of a few laser cut blades to slot them on. Stainless would be nice as it would remove the need for paint which would scrape off in use anyway.

Dave and everyone else who contributed I really have hit the jackpot with the responses

I have only had chance to have a quick squint through all the posts tonight and am absolutely delighted with what you have all written. I have a Siglent SDS 1102CML to play with. Last time played with a 'scope was nearly 50 years ago. It is fair to say they have changed a little. Before I only had a multimeter and couldn't see what the circuit was doing at all until I bought the thing. That was how the 1M resistor got changed; I intended to buy an old analogue device, but decided that decent ones were too expensive to risk spending the money on if it was going to get killed in the post or pop next week

I checked the 22uF capacitor with a Peak Atlas ESR70 - comes up 23.83uF and ESR of 1.60 Ohms. According to the table provided, that is a low ESR for a 25V capacitor. That leads me to think it is ok.

Tomorrow I may get the chance to print the responses and sort them out. I'm not suspending respiration though. Today I have been helping a younger member of the Sheffield Club sort his Sweet Pea valve gear out. Last week I made him some new surface ground face valves. Today we have sharp valve events and it notches up in reverse. It is great to help people, I enjoy it a great deal personally - I really hate to be the duck egg that I am with this lark. embarrassed

Thanks again to all

Steve

That CD4538 thing has twice as many pins and I'm buggered if I understand it.........
