Thread: Tom Senior

hi all thank you for the replies i am using it in the horizontal not vertical the bar goes right through the casting so i would be suprised to find any cracks and there is nowhere to measure what it clamps on. tom.jpg

You could try shims of drinks can metal between bar and housing to take up some clearance and hopefully restore clamping - no risk of machine damage with this try, and virtually no cost.

Thats a great idea i have some steel shim stock will give it a go many thanks.

Great site but still no blow up of the head their is a photo of the drawing i need lol so close but so far

Hi Bob,

The picture of the drawing is all I have. I managed to find it late last night. I was going to send it to you today.

I replaced the bearings in my knuckle head a couple of years ago. From memory the bearings were considerable more expensive than a metric equivalent.

If I had to change them again I might consider re-engineering the casting to take metric bearings.

Out of interest do you have a link to the bearings you purchased?

Steve.

Hi Steve i got the part numbers from a post on here somewhere the 2 thrust races i got from Ebay The MS9ACD was ebay and so was the LS10ACD i did google them but a big variation in prices

If I remember rightly the horizontal drive has bronze or oilite? bearings & the MT shaft has 2 bearings in it. 1 at the bottom which is held in place with the cover & the one at the top is held in place with a split screwed washer (the type you put a screw in so it doesn't come loose I don't know what you call them) there are no shims in there. You have to put the bearings on the shaft first and then slide the whole thing into the head.

your old bearings should have numbers etched onto them so you can identify them like that if all else fails

regards

Paul

Thank you for that Paul i have found the 2 bearing numbers and the to thrust bearing one and have ordered them i now need the number for the Oil seal and i think we are sorted.

Hi Bob,

Which vertical head are you interested in? S type or knuckle head?

Steve.

Hi Steve not sure the difference between S type or knuckle but its just the small one it has no quill on it if that makes sense.

i hope Paul will have the drawing i need.
