So ive started on Martin Evans attachment for milling curved valve links but hoping to adapt it to mill tapered conrods as well. I suppose there are other ways but this gets me back into making things.

Thread: Cable size for Oxford welder
24/07/2016 10:58:06

Hi, not withstanding the common sense approach ref wiring sizes, I have an Oxford oil cooled and in my old shop it tripped the breaker every time if I forgot to turn the welding current down first it's called inrush current, a transformer can be considered similar to a big capacitor as in it needs ' filling' with lots of little wigglies as you turn it on, once on I never had any trouble welding.

Thread: Secrecy...within the workshop?

Having trained as an aircraft tech in the RAF longer ago than I care to remember, information tech and otherwise was always freely given it was always thought if everyone knows how to do it it makes it easier for everyone. A shock then on leaving and going to work for an old railway company (BR I think it was called) when knowledge was most definitely perceived power amongst some it was one way the old RSI kept his position it was only later with the advent of BS 5750 ( does that date it) that drawings etc became freely available suddenly everyone could mend a locomotive!

Thread: Workshop wiring question

Hi as has been said its a neutral earth thing as you cut the cables, turn off the mains it's the only way, as for induced voltage I used to work in an electric traction shed under 25Kv wires the scaffold we used for changing wiper blades used to register some quite high voltages all scary stuff and to make it worse you can't see the damn stuff

29/03/2016 19:55:34

Ok I know it was the bsa triumph group but I have a t160 and if you own one or the oth there is a difference and I think it was a triumph engine, different shaped gear box cover amongst the more obvious things so I just wondered what anyone else thought, cheers

29/03/2016 19:39:23

Hi, I watched with some interest having read that guy was going to use a rob north framed bike, now I heard him say it was bsa based but has anyone recorded it or can check on I player because I believe it was a trident engine and not a rocket 3 or have I lost the plot completeley? Cheers and well done all concerned 30 tons of wood!

26/03/2016 20:51:03

Hi some years ago I made a truck for the same job I used 50x25 X 3 mm with some biggish planks on I just put a piece of plate greased well and a largish bolt through fairly basic but our ME club is still using it to move all sorts also for lifting my mill I used a jack and did each side a bit at a time and blocked it up till I could get under it good luck

Hi all I am going public today I have ordered a set of drawings for a super simplex so now you all know I'll just have to build it!

It may be a while before I start as I am still sorting my workshop after inheriting dads stuff I have to get it all set up and wired in but still not too testing and a good couple of weeks should see it done and a start made

Don't rush, I think about 20 years is the average build time

Neil

It's good to know that I am just over halfway through then embarrassed

Russell

Oh my that means I'll be nearly 80 when it's done and I was hoping to have it done in time to give the grandkids a ride on instead they might have to finish it!

Richard, do the pulleys rotate in opposite directions? I have a sensitive drill that looks quite similar the lever moves the shaft up/down and it uses a small round belt to allow for the movement

Unless it really needs the split outer I'd try without might be cheaper

08/02/2016 21:39:25

Sorry not sure why it's posted twice finger trouble most like

08/02/2016 21:38:13

Andrew there should be a part number on the bearing I have used bearing services ltd in the past (usual no connection other than as customer) they have always been very helpful if there is no part number just measure the inside, outside and thickness and try BSL as before most bearings are standard good luck
