Thread: VFD off the bay
26/11/2019 13:34:10

I have run my Bridgeport for 6 years or more on a Huan Yang (spelling ?) VFD. It was sub £90 and has no issues. My friend who wired it for me has 5 of them running all his workshop requirements. I suppose I am a "Heavy user" compared to many home workshops using the mill 15/20 hours some weeks.

Thread: Tapping a nylon hole.
25/11/2019 20:05:20

Boiling in water should stabilise the part. Nylon absorbs moisture (yes really) we used to boil injection moulded parts to speed up the post moulding inspection of sizes.

Thread: Warco 1224
25/11/2019 07:56:16

I don't know the machine but a look on Warco's web page may show prices for current equivalent machine. The later machines may come with a readout as standard making them worth a little more. With what is deemed as a second hand machine and no warranty I would start my offer at 50% of the present cost and maybe go up a bit. Factor in possible cost of van hire and lifting gear etc.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Thread: Tailstock indexing
25/11/2019 07:47:05

My take on this is an Aldi digital calliper at around £9 modified to make a tailstock readout. No more counting turns and can be set with a slip gauge if required.

Thread: View on this milling machine please
24/11/2019 19:32:36

With a budget of £2/3k he is in Bridgeport territory with good spares back up. If he has the space I know which I would prefer to use.

Thread: new gear for Fortis lathe
21/11/2019 09:22:45

Have a look on HPC gears website, they may have a standard or be able to make you one. They are based in Chesterfield UK.

Thread: hi from Aarhus
21/11/2019 09:15:43

Welcome along Alf, from a long retired toolmaker. Enjoy your machinery.

Thread: Quick Machinists Jacks
18/11/2019 12:28:38

M12/M8 adaptors available commercially for pennies. Not worth the effort to set up.

18/11/2019 07:45:57

Over the years I have made many jacks, some fancy tapered turned affairs others just a rectangular block. Before then I pressed a tee nut into service with a suitable bolt.

Thread: Introduction
17/11/2019 08:12:24

Welcome along to the forum Hoss, from another not far from central England. What machinery do you have ?

Thread: HAS ANYONE MADE A SINE BAR ?
09/11/2019 15:29:14

Yes several over the years. Most used are a 2" and a 3", very handy in the vice. 5" good on angle plate set ups.

I have a 10" sine bar free to anyone who wants it, just cover postage. Chris.

Thread: Yet another 'which mill shall I buy'
08/11/2019 17:00:22

My Bridgeport does all I need. There are some about with the 36" table, don't come up for sale very often but desirable for those with limited space.

Thread: Reaming - depth of cut
05/11/2019 08:21:19

If using a brand new reamer do as said above and try in some scrap. New reamers tend to cut big on the first pass or two.

Thread: Metal supplies
03/11/2019 18:47:15

Nick, where in the world are you ? Here in the Midlands we have many stockholders willing to sell small quantities for cash. I do buy small amounts and also complete bar lengths at more than reasonable cost.

Thread: Hello

Thread: Problems with "The Home Shop Machinist" website?
18/10/2019 15:06:51

I am getting the same as you Old Mart. Also using edge.

Thread: Need Carbide Mill Cutters honed?
18/10/2019 13:56:42

I may be able to help in a few weeks time, I only took delivery of a cutter grinder this week and have to install it and practice on a few cutters.
