I fully agree about bevel edged chisels which is why I said 'found at the end' to which you then confirm by talking about the primary and secondary bevels.

But if being pedantic then you have also confirmed the description of a bevel.

It seems that it can be an open ended answer depending on whether you use the words as a noun or an adjective.

You might say that a bevelled edge is found at the end of a wood chisel whilst you would chamfer the edge of a turned piece to remove the sharp edge.

Adjust the leadscrew bracket at the right hand end to realign the thread and gearwheel.

I thought that they uncoupled the pistons at the cross head so that it freewheeled.

Concur with Joseph's advice, would add however - ensure that you get the correct voltage when buying the new capacitors.

Can't help with your main problem I'm afraid but in reply to item one.

Yes, falling voltage will cause an increase in amperage to compensate and that can/will damage compensation.

If you wire it so that your timeswitch supplies power to the thermostat then there won't be any power to it during the OFF periods.

If it has a 90 frame motor fitted I would replace it with another 90 frame as it would be an exact physical size swap over.

Just keep an eye on the motor temperature when running at reduced speeds, the 1.5hp one that is.

Whilst appreciating the potential electrical hiccups is there any mileage in there being a problem with the bearings?

I know that you have checked the balance of the rotor and pulley but this was outside of the motor frame.

Are the bearings tight and square on the shaft?

Are they a good fit in the motor casing itself? Did the casing go back together in proper alignment?

Just clutching at straws here.

Looking at images of the nickel titanium tools they appear to be cut on opposite sides rather like collets thereby allowing some extra flexibility.

The silent compressors are generally hermetic refrigeration compressors.

The reason for the reduced duty cycle is that the motor does not have cooling refrigerant running through it only air.

In normal "fridge" usage the compressors often have a maximum start regime of six ( sometimes 10 ), starts per hour. When the motor starts there is an inrush of energy which generates heat in the windings, the motor then needs to run for a reasonable period the get rid of the heat. When running on air only the motor cooling is minimal.

Also, as an air compressor any oil carry over in the discharge pipework needs to be mechanically caught and returned to the compressor or at least the level monitored so that it can be topped up. In a fridge the oil circulates with the refrigerant and finds its own way back.

Most VFD manufacturers will confirm that changing the switching frequency upwards can reduce the perceived noise.

It is possible to overdo it so I would suggest that you read up on your particular make/model.
