Thread: chinese sellers refunding rather than supply
03/02/2016 10:59:23

I've had this a few times ... and there wasn't any bad will or fraud ... they obviously just try to sell you on an other product they have in stock (bait and switch) ... or process a paypal refund. It's annoying and a little deceitful, but not outright theft. Generally they are relisting old ads, and when I have asked they will get the product in the next production run, but that may be months away.

1/2" hex nut or bolt head on a lever?

Thread: Off center groove

If you don't have 4 axis cnc, or too much time on your hands with a rotary table, make it in 3 pieces, glue it together (or solder if you're fancy).

Seriously ... that's how the original was done. It's the easy way.

An offset workpiece between centres will give you an elipse, which will not have a uniform depth of groove (although at 16 degrees it's probably not that much out)

Thread: The ultimate easy home workshop
10/09/2015 17:20:57

I looked at one a while ago (well ... got the close up pictures by request) ... there was a light patina of rust on all the ground metal surfaces. And the expected tooling was not included.

Also ... the mill seems to be mounted at the back of the lathe.

Thread: New lathe arrived today : The ongoing saga

on 2. yes, the jaws have a specific sequence, without which they will not hold the workpiece centered

on 4. there is typically a push pin switch actuated by the guard ... it's there for a reason, but you could manually close the circuit if you wish

Thread: do I need reverse
08/04/2015 20:28:43

reverse makes thread cutting a hellofalot easier

... also unwinding your tie when it gets caught in your workpiece
