Thread: A workholding question. |

Similar to Chris If it was me I would have left the disc's still in the bar, turned it to size on the lathe for the length of the total number of disc required + a mounting spigot + parting allowance. Bored though all for your bearing size. Make a steel tee shaped plug to fill the bore for the table tailstock. Then mounted it on your table as you have only with the spigot in the chuck to save marking the outside finish. Cut all the slots at once. Which means you only have 2 set overs to get the four slots right and not 8? Going back to the lathe, part off each disc etc. |

And see the news item about the farthing found under the Victory's mast. PS Since she was built at Chatham I have long thought she should rest here. Edited By ega on 21/10/2021 11:11:33 HMS Victory is still in commission with the RN as flagship of the 1st Sea Lord, Chatham will have to wait till she's paid off.
BTW you can bits of the Victory made from the good bits of rotten & replaced timbers. |

I believe the Virginia is big for it's gauge, but never seem to sell for very much on Station Rd. |
Thread: Coupling and drawbar standards |

I imagine it's all about club rolling stock coupling height, the extra inch would be due to requiring legs dangling on raised track and therefore everything is lower to the track? |

Compare the prices of vertical heads for a Centec? The non-quill are a good addition to a horizontal-only machine, but the MkIII heads (with quill) usually fetch well over twice as much as the former. That is a good indicator? Angled machining with a quill is easy enough, but one really needs a tilting table or vise for the non-quill head. Might be more… Edited By not done it yet on 20/10/2021 11:39:36 I'm not sure a £1000 difference is worth the quill. Prices have gone more than a little silly just now. |

DAVE I have rented from BOC as a private individual for 40 years. brian
I was refused co2 at the Coventry depot about 5 years ago |

BOC will not rent cylinders to private individuals. I believe I saw Helen from Western Steam demo'ing soldering a boiler with a BOC Porta Pac at the Meriden show a good 5 years ago or longer. She made it look very easy. |

If it was born with a 3 pulley drive it probably needed it. You may find the gearbox very lossy and it's got a heck of a bed for a bench top lathe. With a 14" swing it's more like 3hp territory. |
Thread: Compressor Problem! |
17/10/2021 14:26:48 |
As this unit has a tank. Is the tank fill valve good? Last time you used it did it vent pressure (unloader valve) on motor switch off? It might be if the pump output tube is still under tank pressure the pump is shuddering because it's being braked hard by back pressure from the tank when the motor is turned off. Just guessing mind you all my comps have been piston or constant bleed without a tank. |
