I would also hazard a guess that those bushes are made from sintered (powder metal) steel.

One of the characters of sintered steels (and there are many) is that they have a degree of self lubrication, like Oilite, so would be ideal in this application; and another is that they have a degree of porosity, and that would allow the apparent compaction in torsion shown in the photos.

I bought a Myford Speed 10 recently, it came with one of the aluminium QCTP.

Compared with the steel ones I have on my Myford 254S and Boxford 330, the cheap Chinese one is absolute garbage, and it went straight in the bin.

There's a reason the junk one is a quarter of the price of a decent one no

What would one of those be then? (and we'll excuse the fact it is flak, not flack wink  )

Cracking video !. Urea would have been better than glitter though. Or a hand grenade......

Regrettably the grenade would make it a one tripper.

Not a problem, you set up a production line laugh

Mine would be neither, so surely the answer to your question is only one that you can answer?

Without knowing your budget, what you want to achieve with it etc, I can't see anyone can give you an objective answer wink

Money deposited in a bank is viewed as a loan to the bank and becomes subject to its T&Cs. In effect, the bank becomes the gatekeeper to the money you earned.

Martin.

Ah, right.

After 41 years working in financial services, I do not know of anyone, ever, that was not given access to their money under the right circumstances (i.e., excluding overdrafts, proceeds of crime etc).

If you have concerns, you may be better off keeping your money in a McVities tin under your mattress smiley

You make my point most eloquently, thank you.

No need to keep your hard-earned under the mattress. wink

Please do not twist my words. Nowhere do I agree with you sad

Martin.

I've not had any trouble with my bank hindering access to my money in over 50 years. Keeping it in cash at home would make very many transactions a lot more complicated and labour-intensive, as well as making considerable investment in security advisable. I'd say your last sentence represents an outlying view.

Sorry, but it's a fact. Many, many people have their accounts put on 'hold', or suspended for various reasons.

None of which are 'we are going to stop you having access to your money for no good reason, just because we say so'.

But, I only worked with billions of corporate money for 41 years, what do I know?

If you don't mind me saying so, you sound a bit paranoid on the subject.

Then we'd probably chuck you out the window. The perfect steak is either fried or ideally grilled over hot charcoal.

No need to chuck me out of the window, BBQ is the only way to cook steak cheeky

Tell the purchaser to pay in full by PayPal, or bank transfer, and they can collect when they like. You will probably never hear from them again.

Things may have changed since I last looked, but I believe accepting a Paypal payment and then allowing the buyer to collect can leave a seller in a situation where the buyer does collect and then files an "item not received" claim with Paypal. Paypal (in the absence of any proof that the item was handed over to the buyer) sides with the buyer and the seller loses both the item and his money.

Caveat vendor!

Edited By Bill Phinn on 03/12/2018 16:52:28

You are correct, and if you are suspicious, you ask them to sign a receipt for the goods, and take a picture of their number plate as they leave, as proof. That and you make sure collection details are in an eBay PM, eBay can see all messages.

Having been an eBay user for the last 18 years, and a financial forensic investigator in a previous life, they don't even get to win any of my items if I am suspicious about them. Not the first time I have cancelled someone's bid.

Take a hefty deposit which is banked and no doubt accrues interest. Thank you, deliverywill be sometime in the future.

Not any longer. The Morgan waiting list issues of the past are just that, a thing of the past.

I have advertised some equipment on well known second hand site for a three figure sum. A respondent has replied that he wishes to purchase at the asking price, but cannot collect until next month. If I send my name and address he will send me a certified cashiers cheque immediately. Should I be wary?

What does the purchaser's profile look like? Domicile? Feedback?

If it looks iffy, you probably need to run as fast as you can!

Who in the UK uses the term 'certified cashiers cheque'? There's no such thing anyway, it is a certified cheque or a cashiers cheque, and those are overseas terms, normally the US.

Tell the purchaser to pay in full by PayPal, or bank transfer, and they can collect when they like. You will probably never hear from them again.

Thread: Cheap carbide inserts - where's the market?

Thanks Chris - interesting video. And no Gregg Wallace in sight, which is a good thing*.

I guess that reinforces my idea that no one is going to invest in such a complex and specialised process just to satisfy the hobby market. It looks like Sandvik take QC quite seriously, but I can believe that there are factories churning these things out with less attention to detail to satisfy an industrial market which doesn't need that degree of refinement. Maybe these are the cheap inserts we see on the internet. I dunno!

Robin.

*Ref is to BBC2 'Inside the Factory' if you haven't seen it - potentially interesting, but spoiled for me by by Wallace's presentation - he never gets to the interesting questions! The one on poppadums was quite thought provoking though - handmade and sundried in India, then fried over here robotically - strange world. How hard is it to fry a poppadum?

R.

Edited By Robin Graham on 02/12/2018 22:50:45

The poppadums are probably not fried in advance because the oil in them may go rancid before they are eaten.
