Thread: Push Button oiler ball Stuck!
16/01/2017 09:49:58

Old and new Push Button oiler.

I screwed a self tapper in to the old one and used a claw hammer to lever it out.

Here is the stuck ball I think the silver/shiny bit on the L/H is the spring.

One of the Push Button oilers ball is stuck in my lathe.
I have pulled the brass housing out, but the ball is stuck about 25 mm in.
I tried getting a magnetised rod to try and pull it out, didn't work.
Is there any way to get it out with out pulling the carriage to bits.

The lathe is a Steelmaster SM-0920V 9 X 20 ,

Thread: ER UM Type Clamping Nut For Collet Chuck
18/10/2016 08:54:15

Thanks John, I found them and made an order from Ausee, quite lucky they have a 15% off sale at the moment.

I would love to get hold of one of Arceurotrade catalogues, will have to see if they will post to Aust.

Cheers,

Mark

I am after another ER UM Type clamping nut for my collet chuck, I have been scouring eBay.

My questions are:
Is the thread in the ER UM type clamping nut universal?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of the ball bearing type nut?

Thread: Coolant system.

Just as an after thought I wonder if one of these would have enough puff for one of those coolant mister?

I still reckon I will need some sort of coolant on my bandsaw.

Thanks for your replies.

How do you use the Carnauba wax?

The Carnauba wax I have use come in a extremely hard bar, used in wood turning.

I have been using cutting fluid in a spray can which is extremely expensive in my area, tried diesel oil as have about twenty litres of it but it is so messy.

I cant find Molyslip here, eBay only gives me UK seller postage is £20.25 for a 450g tin.

I probably don't really need need it and I defiantly don't want my compressor running all the time in my shed.

Thread: DRO for a mill.

I had a reply from Ditron.
I said that I want scales for the Z axis and also ask for prices for 1um resolution scales also prices for the slim scales.

I measured the travel on my mill on the week end and I got the following measurements,

X 530 mm
Y 180 mm
Z 400 mm

What length should I go for?

Thread: Coolant system.
28/06/2016 11:29:39

I need a coolant system for my mill, lathe and band saw.

I have a pump and tank for the mill and lathe.

How many nozzles would I need for the mill?

What is the best idea of containing the coolant splatters?

My band saw is a BS-5, how can I install a coolant system to this, because I have to use this in my BBQ area I need to have some way of not making a mess on the pavers.

I just found these on ebay would these be better?

Thread: What is the difference between a face mill and a fly cutter?
28/06/2016 10:30:33

Thanks for you replies.

After looking at links and you tube video I think buy a face mill and make a fly cutter.

Looking at face mills at H&F.

I was wondering if the more insert tips there are the better the finish?

What is the difference between the 90° positive rake and the 45° super high rake?

This has only 3 inserts but has MT arbor.

https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/M529

Or is it better to buy an arbor and and face mill head separate

They have 50 mm x 90° - 3 teeth

50 mm x 45°- 4 teeth

75 mm x 90° - 5 teeth

or the head in this one has 7 teeth

Any where else to look for tooling?
25/06/2016 21:56:10

What is the difference between a face mill and a fly cutter?

Will I need both?

What type of face mills?

Are Roughing end mills worth while getting these, if so what sizes?

I have a Seig SX3L mill.

More I read more confused I get.

Thread: What size linear scales for Seig SX3L
14/06/2016 01:02:08

What size linear glass scales would I need to fit a Seig SX3L mill.

The table size is 700 mmX 160 mm , spindle to table is 380 mm.

Thread: Power Feed For My SX3 Mill
01/06/2016 10:15:02

Thank for your reply, that link is interesting.

I just found a couple of old electric scooters, I am wondering if these motor would be any good for the Z axis, other wise a stepper motor is probably the way to go.

29/05/2016 04:00:17
I saw this you tube video on another forum, i like the idea very much, but being electronically challenged, I was wondering if any one would be able to give me a wiring diagram.

Would this motor be powerful enough for a Seig SX3 long table?
http://metalworkforums.com/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DAqsDeCkhYIs

Also has any one made a power feed for their Z axis, if so what size motor did you use?

Thanks,

Mark.
Thread: DRO for a mill.
29/05/2016 03:17:37

I am looking for a Dro for my mill, and more I look the more confused I get. I have a Sinpo 2 axis Dro 2L on my lathe and thought about getting a Sinpo 3 axis Dro 3M for my mill.

Sinpo 3 Axis Digital Readout for Mill Milling Machine Complete DRO Kit | eBay

Which is $ 661.10 plus postage also looked at the

HXX 3 axis mill DRO system 3 axis digital readout and 3 piece 0 1000mm linear glass scale for lathe milling grinder EDM machine-in Other Machinery from Industry & Business on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

This is $394.26 plus free postage.

What is the difference between the Sinpo and Sino DRO's?

Is there any other type I could be looking at?

Chris I did it as in your photo

I am ordering some sets of taps from Ausee,, I believe they are the same as you get from Arceuro Trade.

Had another look this morning at the thread, very shallow, I will see how it goes, I can always cut it off and start again.

This is the first time I used a mill so all a learning experience.

What is metal working oil, Google is giving me conflicting views.
